Just because one has tremendous respect for great drummers doesn't mean they should be able to do it themselves. Not being able to do it procuces even more respect for those who can. I'm sure Charlie Watts appreciates what Keith does, but I've never heard of Charlie attempting to play guitar.

lest we forget: Keith played the floor tom on Jumpin Jack Flash
and if percussion counts: he played bicycle spokes on Continental Drift and rattlesnake on Wicked As It Seems
For what it's worth; according to info on Nico Zentgraf's site he also plays kick drum and piano. Not that this particular track features the most inspiring drumming though.

Mick and Keith worked up material together first without the rest of the band. Mick played a lot of bass (some of which remained on the record) and played some drums. I believe these tunes were actually re-cut with Charlie, rather than Charlie simply overdubbing drums and wiping Mick's part, but I could be wrong. If anyone thinks that's incorrect please post.

I no longer have it in a non digital format but I recall that the original packaging of Ron Wood's Gimme Some Neck included a picture of Keith sitting behind a drum kit. Who knows if he was actually trying to play or just fooling around but the picture was in there somewhere.

Keef plays drums on the first Wingless Angels album...I would like to note that playing drums means percussions too, not just a western drum kit...in understanding the drums and drum playing, you can learn lot just by playing congas or other percussion instruments, it´s much harder than it looks...
and considering the fact that keef produced one of the most interesting percussion-albums of all time, - Wingless Angels - it seems like a stupid Keith bashing again to critize him for being a guitarist who talks about drums.
- This is typical example on how this forum over reacts to everything Keith says or does - and turns his sayings into stupid bashing without understanding the basic facts of the music he does, like - percussions are drum instruments !!!! Please gimme a break with your keith bashing, ok !

Look at the inner cover:
Personnel includes: Keith Richards (vocals, guitar, percussion);
- NOW You know that percussion means a drum instrument in most cases. If you look at lot of other Keef recordings and if you read from the cover who played what - you will notice him playing percussions on lot of sessions. thank you.

They didn't have Charlie overdub Mick's drum parts for A Bigger Bang - Mick's "drum parts" were the demos. They used some of his drum tracks as samples on A Bigger Bang. I've never understood where people get the idea that Charlie overdubbed his drums for ABB. They were recorded live with Mick and Keith (and apparently at some point with Ronnie) playing.
Of course, the website promoting it said "A Bigger Bang is the latest Rolling Stones album, and maybe the greatest. A bold claim, certainly, but many are convinced the band has never recorded anything better."

Amen. For a so-called "fan club," I've never seen so many people bash a guy who bears enormous responsibility for creating the music they're fans of. So, age has affected the guy. I don't think that merits the bashing and mocking I see so much of here. Even if he becomes wheelchair-bound and drooling, he deserves great respect. You like the Stones? Respect the man, for without him you would never have had the bulk of the Stones music. Satisfaction, other countless classic riffs and songs that he created. He will go down in history as a master of the form. Show some respect.

Has anyone figured out where the idea of Charlie overdubbing his drums for A Bigger Bang comes from? Confusing what he did on Bridges To Babylon perhaps?
