Stones Myths
Posted by: Elmo ()

Various myths have grown up over the years concerning various members of the band. Brian's death has its fair share but let's not go there again, likewise the Mars bar story and Keith's drug intake.

But, did MJ really bite off the end of his tongue when doing a forward roll during a gym exercise - this was meant to have something to do with his unique singing style!

Not his tongue but he bit off Ozzy Osbourne's head during a concert.

Here's a myth: they'll tour soon.

Aren't there lots of pics with Mick's tongue hanging out that would prove this myth ?

Weaving between Richards and Wood happened on exactly one album: Some Girls. After that it was just the "ancient art of playing twice as loud as the other guy" or "the ancient art of someone covering my guitar parts". In other words, the ancient art of bvllshit.

Did really Charlie hit Mick in the face? Did Keith snort the ashes of his deceased father?

An upcoming tour is being planned - release the tigers, etc.

Probably a kernel of truth to the Charlie story, but with added Keith embellishments about nearly knocking Mick into the canal, etc.

What happened to Keith Richards' original but dirty blood that was replaced by a transfusion of cleaner one while he was in Switzerland?

And in fairness 71Tele and StonesTod, there were great examples of weaving on 2 tours at least - '78 and '81. They played pretty fluidly off one another during that era.

Back to the topic at hand, the myth of doing an entire classic album in the basement, as if by design, seems to be overhyped.

A lot of that was pretty much broken down on the recent Exile reissue
..... interviews and esp Stones In Exile DVD

Some songs on ER have that, Dance (1 and 2), Down In The Hole and just about all of the '78 tour. I do agree, though, I'm tired of hearing about it, especially since it's only on a few tunes (record-wise).

Brian NOT playing acoustic on Satisfaction (which many on this board still believe).

OK, I'll give you '78 and '81, but the it's been a myth for 30 years now by that measure.

Well I do think a lot of that still comes from Keith. He rarely mentions the professional studio where much of the work was done because he loves riding the myths, and the press loves riding with them too. But you're right, there was more light shined (no pun intended) on the actual recording process maybe then there had ever been.

Keith's actual alcohol intake over the years. His liver should be hamburger by now, plus he would truly be an alcoholic.

Keith is to the Stones what Dean Martin was to the Rat Pack.

Oh totally. They're just living with past accomplishments and continuing to prop them up. But those accomplishments did at least happen. Except they were 30 years ago.

That Anita was an innocent victim that Keith rescued from the monster Brian. Brian was an abusive monster, but Anita was a maniac who gave as good as she got; this is described both by Spanish Tony and Keith in 'Life'.

One of the funniest is the myth of the X-rated scenes of Mick and Marianne in PERFORMANCE winning a porn film prize in Amsterdam. Seemingly no such a tape nor the porn festival does not exist.

That would be mythical indeed, seeing as Marianne was in Ireland the whole time, and nowhere near the set of Performance.

I distinctly recall an interview with Stu where he stated that such a film (featuring Anita) did win an award at an Amsterdam film festival.
