But most of punk was pretty useless.
No. In 1977, Siouxsie & The Banshees (who were huge fans of the Sex Pistols... Sid Vicious played with them in 76, and Steve Jones on three SATB songs on their third album) were punk, right? Then with the single HONG KONG GARDEN and their debut album The Scream they kept playing with a punk energy, but their songs were more than "basic". How can one of the most important bands of the last decades be useless? How can you forget post-punk, and all the bands who came before 78 and whose members were intelligent enough to not keep playing the same things over and over?
