Has Keith ever used open-G tuning on an acoustic guitar?

He's probably tried open-G on an acoustic, but did he ever put such on a recording?

I thought on Wild Horses, but some here seem to think he played that in standard tuning. Sounds like open G to me.

Wild Horses on "Stripped" was definitely Open G

For sure he has. He had that beautiful 10 string acoustic built especially for that purpose, the one he is playing in the video rocknola posted above.

I'd bet he has at least one open G tuned acoustic sitting around the house at all times ready for the next inspiration.

I've noticed Exile photos where Keith has his Gibson set as a 5 string. Possibly a way to work out parts or something but yeah if you play open G or any alternate tunings you try many guitars.

Really? Man for these two shows they were far more adventurous than I thought.
Too bad that spirit quickly vanished as soon as they hit Oslo for the 1st [gig] of the tour... confused smiley

I thought on Wild Horses, but some here seem to think he played that in standard tuning. Sounds like open G to me.

I've been a little back and forth on this one. What I'm hearing now is:

- One electric guitar in standard tuning (Keith)-right
- One Nashville-strung guitar (Taylor)-left
- One 12-string acoustic guitar in standard tuning during the intro (Taylor)-left
- One 12-string acoustic guitar (with the E-string on?) in open G (Keith)-right
- One acoustic guitar in standard tuning (choruses) (Taylor)-left

So it's really an advanced jig saw puzzle, this recording...

PS: I still wonder why Keith chooses to play the F# on the 1st e-string out of his Bm-chord on the verses. It was never done again later, and that is the note you'll get from a Bm-chord in standard tuning.

But the chorus gives the tuning away, especially the F-chord.

Well, today's research is completed, thanks to you, Tele smiling smiley

Demo/Early version of All Down The Line seems to me to be Open-G.

Thanks to you! You did the work. For me it's that first instrumental break that makes me think it's standard: the added "G" on top of the "F" chord. But some of the harmonic open strings have the sound of open G. I am hearing that high "E" tuned down to "D" ring open. So...I just don't know.

Stripped hasn't been officially released on DvD yet, but it circulates as a bootleg;
same with the Paradiso and Brixton shows.

Thanks. Modern Stones concert recording haven't ever got me as excited as what I've seen from Paradiso. What a fantastic high quality vault release this would be. I'm drooling just thinking about it.

I don't think it's available on DVD. At least officially.

I recall there being a TV show but I never saw it, never heard or read if it was being broadcast in the US - just... nothing. I couldn't believe it. Like A Rolling Stone came out on MTV, the VOODOO LOUNGE tour had just finished that week. And yet... after STRIPPED came out it seemed like it never happened.

I know some not-big-Stones fans that loved STRIPPED. It is a fine album. It's too bad they don't release the other half of what they did. The live tracks were stellar.

The only bit of the show I've seen has been on youtube.

They filmed all club shows in 1995.
There is an unofficial Stripped DVD in superb quality, released by different bootleg labels, with footage from Brixton, Paradisio, Olympia and EMI studios in Tokyo.
The most common releases consists of Wild Horses (Tokyo), Like a Rolling Stone (Brixton), Angie (Olympia), Dead Flowers (Paradisio), Live With Me (Brixton),
Spider and the Fly (Tokyo), Shine a Light (Paradisio), Sweet Virginia (Brixton), Rip This Joint (Paradisio), Gimme Shelter (Paradisio), Love in Vain (Tokyo), Street Fighting Man (Paradisio) and Let it Bleed (Tokyo).

This concert film includes backstage footage and interviews with band members, fans and Jack Nicholson.
Why it was never officially released, I have no idea.

At least they released Gimme Shelter from Paradiso (on the b-side of the Saint of Me single). I think it's one of their best performances ever. It was too good to be left out. And thankfully, it's on the Stripped DVD.

All of the live B-side tracks are stellar.

Black Limo and All Down The Line from the LARS single are exceptional. The Wild Horses single wasn't as good but was still good regardless: Live With Me is chunky; Tumbling Dice is pretty damn good; Gimme Shelter was OK. Gimme Shelter is good but I think the version on NO SECURITY is even better.

Imo it's because the band (aka Jagger) moved on.
After "Stripped" was out he didn't really want to be involved in another 1995 project. And by 96 he was writing music for B2B.
The Stones left behind quite a lot fo unfinished projects over the years...
