Hurricane
(Mick Jagger / Keith Richards)

Guillaume Tell Studios Davout, Suresnes, Paris, France, May 13 - June 7, 2002

Keith Richards - vocals, acoustic guitar
Ron Wood - acoustic slide guitar

Everyone in town remembers the last hurricane
Everyone in town hopes it won't happen again
Oh, how it shrieks
Days turn into weeks
'Cause nobody knew which way the wind blew

But oh, how it shrieks
Days turn into weeks
'Cause nobody knows which way the wind blows

Everyone in town remembers the last hurricane
Everyone in town hopes it doesn't happen again
'Cause oh, how it shrieks
Days turn into weeks
And nobody knew, no one in town knew
Which way the wind blew

Produced by The Glimmer Twins & Don Was

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “Hurricane” CD single
(DIDX - 118126 2) US, November 2005

A glimmer of what went on during those sessions in Paris in 2002. A second glimmer is
Only found out yesterday, from the Disney movie. Who knows what else they recorded?
It would be nice if any tapes would find our way from those sessions.

Love it. Give me Keith doing folk-blues over those damn piano ballads any day of the week...

it shines! Mississippi John Hurt would be proud
and listen to Ronnie's delicate touches - beautiful stuff!

Even though I'm a post-Steel Wheels era Stones buff, I have never heard it. The lyrics read like they could form the basis of a great song. The fact that it is known as a demo that was rush-released for charity makes me wonder what could have become of it.

Could it have become a full-fledged song? Probably.
I'd like to say it's not too late for the Stones to work on it despite the demo having already seen a release and I would love to listen to the result.

I'm inclined to agree. I really like this (even though I don't consider it a true Rolling Stones track).

A throwaway, Keith probably can (could?) play songs like this in his sleep. I'm pretty sure the guitar part is from some Mississippi John Hurt number.

They were selling this at the post-Katrina shows.

They must have sold fast because I went to the Houston show in December and I didn't find one there.

Listen to the various folk-blues that Keith plays on Disc 2 of Voodoo Brew and you'll hear that "Hurricane" belongs to the same family as "Cocaine" and "I Get a Kick Out Of You" - and yes, it was probably fairly easy to get from those to Hurricane, but since when has the amount of effort put into composing a song had much to do with how good it is?

Not really a Stones song, just a lovely little outtake that we might never have heard but for the way the wind blew.

I think it is a nice little song, I agree with Mississippi John Hurt connections and taking it simple form, musically it could have done ("borrowed") by Bob Dylan as well. It has variance to a typical Stones number, and for that reason I think it couldn't have found a suitable place in a Stones album. Best "Keith" number since "How Can I Stop". Better than the four released new FORTY LICKS tracks, anything on A BIGGER BANG or in GODDESS IN DOORWAY or ALFIE (but "Blue" being quite close). But making that doesn't need much.

Shit what I wrote means that the song is the best song of the noughties by the Stones guys (but wouldn't make my top 150 Stones songs)!eye popping smiley

Yawn. I'm sorry, but this one's a turd, at least to my ears. Sorry Keith, you're gonna have to try a little harder next time.

Nota terrible track, but a studio jam, that was hastily released to help with Katrina relief. Not too memorable, and some embarressing errors for an official release.

Great guitar interplay between Keith and Ron. Always been amazed how this short song takes you away from the first note. To me it just shows how Keith is good at catching moments like this. Like Keith says in the video above there's nothing to add to it. It's perfect like this.

I like the song. I bought two of the singles at a Stones Vegas show. So their increase from $5 bucks each to $80 bucks each ain't bad.

A non-song as far as I'm concerned. Lazy effort.

This is way better than most of the generic rawk The Stones release these days.

Exactly--"generic rawk" ("Driving Too Fast? "I Go Wild?"). That's exactly the phrase. And it's embarrassing, for sure.

"Hurricane"' is a delicate little gem. But not everyone can be expected to understand...
