A slaveholding, pot smoking, non-religious man. The loony right in America claim the Founding Fathers were like them, and yet when you ask them for a name, they can't come up with one.

Has anyone here visited Mt. Vernon or any of the battle sites from the Revolutionary War such as Trenton or Princeton, or Harlem Heights, Yorktown or even Valley Forge?

Been to Valley Forge for my grand parents anniversary (they were married there in the mid/late 1930's)...
Also grew up in the town (Acton, MA) next to where (Concord, MA) the first battle of the Revolutionary War was fought (Old North Bridge). Although Paul Revere was arrested before he could get to my home town, one of his partners made it to Acton and our minutemen (the real thing) were actually the first to advance in battle against the British. Capt. Isaac Davis of Acton to the other captains, "I have not a man among us who is afraid to go." This battle was fought April 19, 1775, and was the inspiration for the line "The shot heard round the world". The first three colonists to fall in that battle were from my Acton.
By total accident, in 2006, I was lucky enough to be asked to help the National Parks employee in folding the American flag at the end of the day while visiting this site with my wife. I'm not sure exactly why, but I'm proud of being able to have done that, in that place, even if it was simply by random luck that I had the opportunity.
Peace,
Mr DJA

I'm in New York, and like G.W.. He was a good man in his time and a very good president. Nor am I whining, I like good political discussions and have participated in many debates here. BV, who is apparently in Oslo, does not and shuts these things down.
I would not mind discussing Washington, but read some comments above and you will see how a Washington thread morphs into something else. I wish BV would allow these things but it is his WebPage.
Here is an example from ab: "Happy 79th birthday to Ted Kennedy. He's likely spinning in his grave over the things that have gone on since his passing, starting with his seat in the senate being taken by a Tea Party pinup boy."
Why bring up Ted Kennedy and the Tea Party? It is not Ted's seat it is the peoples' of Massachusetts seat. The Tea Party people have right to demonstrate, like, teachers in Wisconsin; et. al..
so then i guess this international board is not the place to discuss the royal wedding in the UK? or the weather in Finland? or the earthquake in New Zealand? or ice in Georgia? etc etc etc...Quote

[ I'm not sure if an international board is a correct place to celebrate a national hero.
