Been to Valley Forge for my grand parents anniversary (they were married there in the mid/late 1930's)...
Also grew up in the town (Acton, MA) next to where (Concord, MA) the first battle of the Revolutionary War was fought (Old North Bridge). Although Paul Revere was arrested before he could get to my home town, one of his partners made it to Acton and our minutemen (the real thing) were actually the first to advance in battle against the British. Capt. Isaac Davis of Acton to the other captains, "I have not a man among us who is afraid to go." This battle was fought April 19, 1775, and was the inspiration for the line "The shot heard round the world". The first three colonists to fall in that battle were from my Acton.
By total accident, in 2006, I was lucky enough to be asked to help the National Parks employee in folding the American flag at the end of the day while visiting this site with my wife. I'm not sure exactly why, but I'm proud of being able to have done that, in that place, even if it was simply by random luck that I had the opportunity.

I'm in New York,and like G.W.. He was a good man in his time and a very good president. Nor am I whining, I like good political discussions and have participated in many debates here. BV, who is apparently in Oslo, does not and shuts these things down.
I would not mind discussing Washington, but read some comments above and you will see how a Washington thread morphs into something else. I wish BV would allow these things but it is his WebPage.

Why bring up Ted Kennedy and the Tea Party? It is not Ted's seat it is the peoples' of Massachusetts seat. The Tea Party people have right to demonstrate, like, teachers in Wisconsin; et. al..
Nope. There's plenty of amazing, beautiful places on this planet to see - PARIS, VENICE (Italy), CINQUE TERRA, ALMAFI COAST, GREEK ISLANDS, ISTANBUL, BERGEN, HELSINKI, ST. PETE'S, STOCKHOLM, COPENHAGEN, AMSTERDAM, PRAGUE, VIENNA, MOROCCO, SAHARA, EGYPT, RED SEA, DUBAI, YEMEN, SEYCHELLES, ZANZIBAR, EAST CENTRAL AFRICA, SOUTH AFRICA, INDIA, AUSTRALIA, SOUTH EAST ASIA (especially BALI) JAPAN, SOUTH PACIFIC, SOUTH AMERICA, CENTRAL AMERICA, Etc.... why on earth would I wanna spend precious time and money going to the places you mentioned? For what?

I don't want to take sides here but I just want to remind you that for us non-American IORReans, the talk of Washington, Ted Kennedy or Tea Party equals the same: American political history and present. What bothers me sometimes that Americans seems to think that what is domestically interesting for them, should be that internationally. It gives a bit arrogant impression. I'm not sure if an international board is a correct place to celebrate a national hero.

Well, despite that awful royal wedding that is OT an sich (and should rotten in hell), the topics you mention are not political threads but IORRean contributors telling some contingent daily matters in their lives or showing interest to some internationally significant and shocking news (which might also involve some IORR colleagues). If you can't see the difference to paying tributes to some domestic political figures of the past, or discussing some contingent domestic political issues, well, you can't. To addition, if each IORR contributor starts to make threads to one's own political heroes of the past - there are - what?- dozens and dozens of different nationalities here - that would make an incredible amount of OT threads, and that would not make any sense.
With respect, is this really so difficult to grasp?

well, with respect to you as well, Doxa, nobody is forcing you to read these threads. there are plenty of americans on this site. there are a handful of finns (myself included) and if you want to start a thread celebrating the life of Carl Mannerheim, go right ahead, i would welcome it. i would also welcome a thread about a king of Portugal or whatever, i enjoy history and i enjoy learning. if your problem with this thread is politics then that is the issue at hand. we can't discuss politics, unfortunately. but the way you phrased it originally made it seem as though a local or national issue is not welcome on an international messageboard. my apologies for the confusion.
