Saw Joan play "Star, Star" while opening for the Who on 1982 tour in Orlando - almost a year to the day after the 2 Stones shows.

Joan has been called the female version of Chuck Berry. Though she didn't invent Rock And Roll I can understand the comparison.

"Album" is a great disc, with or w/o Star Star.

Saw Joan a couple of summers ago at an outdoor show. It was stinking hot, real muggy, and out comes Joan in her leather, makeup, etc. She was fantastic, playing all her hits, "Cherry Bomb", I Wanna Be Your Dog", and a Sex Pistols cover IIRC. Her eyeliner was running all down her face, but she never flinched for a second. Just played Rock N Roll! God bless her.

I like it better than the Stones' studio version. It's certainly more ballsy. And Album is an outstanding record, featuring some of her best " deep cuts", like A Hundred Feet Away, Secret Love and The French Song. Great guitar sound on it, too. I saw her open for Aerosmith a couple months ago and she surprised me by doing French Song and Fake Friends from Album. It was a great show (Aerosmith were in fine form as well).

Because of my employment (nothing special!) I've met a lot of famous people -- the two coolest (nicest, most engaging, down to earth and least fulla crap) were Carol Burnett and Joan Jett. Joan didn't need to give me the time of day but we shot the breeze about music (T Rex, the Turtles, Beach Boys, 60s one hit wonders) for a bit. I didn't tell her I think she is beautiful!

Joan Jett is great, and the Runaways were fantastic, I had low expectations when I got the Mercury Albums, but it's been the best rock & roll fix all this autumn.

I didn't know about these, thanks for the post...

"Star Star" starts out pretty weak but picks up steam. The vocals are recorded very badly. The live version sounds almost identical.

"Let It Bleed" is better (and is a much better song). There are some interesting misheard lyrics: "you junked my head up with scented jasmine tea." And she either misheard "coke and sympathy" or mumbles it intentionally. She doesn't mumble on "Star Star" though!
