I'm pretty sure Mick has a year-round workout routine no matter if there's a tour.

The Mick Jagger diet: how the rocker keeps his shape

It's not the cigarettes and whiskey diet, if that's what you're thinking. See the Keith Richards Diet if you want to know how a body-punishing, hardcore outlaw rock-and-roller stays slim, though I suspect you may already know. Mick Jagger, on the other hand, announced that he cleaned up his act more than fifteen years ago.

And boy, does it show. While Mick Jagger has always been slim, it would be tough for him to keep up the pace that he does in anything less than fantastic shape.

The stats on 65-year-old Jagger's physique, by way of London's Daily Express:

Age: 65

Weight: 149 pounds

Waist: 28 inches

Distance traveled (running, walking, dancing) in a single concert: 12 miles

For those of us who had difficulty maintaining that sort of weight, size, and endurance when were only 25 years old, here are some of the healthy lifestyle choices Mick Jagger makes.

Regular workouts

Even when he's not strutting across the concert stage, Mick Jagger still gives his devoid-of-all-body-fat physique a workout. Torje Elke is Jagger's personal trainer, with former clients that include soccer celebs, Olympic athletes, and at least one Spice Girl. Elke is part of the entourage that travels with the Rolling Stones when they're on the road, along with a battery of dieticians of masseurs, and she makes sure he keeps fit even between shows.

Less Drinking

Mick Jagger still confesses to indulging in alcohol, and even told The Sun that some partying is necessary just to keep a healthy and happy outlook on life. At his age, though, it's far from an everyday thing. Living in the present may account for at least some of his mind-over-age success. "I try not to think about when I can’t do this any more. I say, ‘don’t look at the clouds of tomorrow through the sunshine of today,'" he told a journalist.

Organic Food

Jo Wood, wife of Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, has convinced Mick Jagger to go organic. Jo discovered organic eating after being diagnosed with a perforated appendix, and her healthy habits have rubbed off on Jagger and others in their circle of friends. Ex-wife Jerry Hall is reportedly on the bandwagon too, and drummer Charlie Watts ate organic during his throat cancer recovery.

Eating Enough

No one stays in good shape by starving themselves, least of all Mick Jagger, who needs more fuel than the average person for firing the rock star engine. He admits that people have a hard time believing he eats enough because of his small frame, telling Parade Magazine: "... I have to eat an awful lot. People say, 'You’re not eating,' and I eat so much. I say, 'I just ate twice as much as you did. I watched you.'"

The truth for most of us is, though, that eating like Mick Jagger would be meaningless without the tremendous cardiovascular workouts he gets on a regular basis just by doing his job. Want to be as slim as a Stone? Eat organic, cut back on alcohol, and eat regular meals, sure, but what might make a bigger difference?

I'll tell you.

Put on a Rolling Stones CD at least three times a week, and strut your stuff for a total of 12 miles or two hours, whichever comes first.

Then we'll see if you gather any moss.

FYI, proudmary - he's not 65. He's turned 67 and Keith's going to turn 67 on Dec. 18th.
I thought everyone knew? No?

As for measuring your fat percentage your length, weight and the outlines of your neck and waist/middle and (only for women!) hips give a pretty good indication. You certainly can find a website containing a method to determine your current fat percentage and your advisable weight (the formula is: your weight divided by the square of your length, the result must be between 20 and 25). But even if it's all perfect you're still risking to die in a car, bus, tram, train, plain or whatever accident or by a nasty disease. Or simply because of old age of course. Fact is you gotta move when the lord gets ready. Even healthy Mick.

Then you're underweight, which isn't healthy either. But maybe your fat percentage is okay. If it's too low then you better eat more food with many calories.

Edit: spelling fault corrected!

Being too skinny is neither healthy. You have to find a path in the middle. Eating only vegetables (being a vegetarian) is neither good, you need to have correct amount of proteins, carbohydrats etc. Eating weel means a good mixture of vegetables, fruits, white and red meat, dairy products.
And a glass of wine, a beer or small liquor a day doesn't ruin your health.
Good suggestion: keep it simple, you don't need to make your eating and drinking too complicated / a study, then you get frustrated.

Good advice. I drink one glass of red wine almost every day.

Being too skinny is neither healthy. .

It depends. When my father was a little boy and a teenager,he was very skinny .His mother gave him liver oil (herk )

But he never was sick -he's 83 now - never had a stomach pain or a serious illness.
And he always ate a lot .He just burns calories faster than the average people .

The man is a force of nature! We can argue about set list choices all day but he owns the stage. Can you imagine how much oxygen you use up just standing still and singing? Try running twelve miles while singing JJF!

Perhaps it should be called post-tour as well - after the last tour.

He doesn't do the equivalent of 12 mi/show! That's ridiculous. That's running a 10 minute mile for 2 hours. Not happening during a show! Come on, people!

Well, consider this:

I do a bit of running myself, and it's my understanding that running and walking both burn about 100 calories per mile in most people.
I know it sounds weird that running & walking burn about the same amount, but that's what they say.

Back during the day of Mick's highest on-stage physical activity, I could easily see him burning 1200 calories during a two-hour performance, equaling about the effort of a 12-mile run/walk.
He may not be moving his body 12 miles back & forth across the stage, but the physical activity of a Stones show, at least some time during his career, probably did equal the energy expenditure of a 12 miler.

And a damned fit man, too! A very nice person with perfect skills. He's the physio for the entire band on tour. Probably knows every muscle of their bodies. Takes long runs daily with the front man.

No way, man! With all due respect, I've done a 1/2 marathon, and Mick might do 6 miles max during a show. He slows down, plays the guitar, takes a break for Keith's bit...He gets a great workout, that's for sure, but he ain't doing a 1/2 marathon every concert. He's great, but not that great. He's definitely very physically fit.

the writer overstated it a bit but when you add all these things up,micks is the man.

think of how easy it would be for him to take his foot off the gas

1.just do small shows-hell, he could work half as hard and he doesnt need the money.but how many of us would never get in and would never see the stones live.

2.does he really need that waistline? hey man, kick back..eat,drink allow yourself to gain a bit of weight.you've earned it.but think of the sinking feeling we'd get if we saw a pudgy mick jagger.

3.singing lessons,a trainer, keeping an eye on the bands finances, designing stages?to me this looks alot like a person committed to a persuit of excellence.it would be much easier sitting around reading books, smoking and getting high and/or drunk,no?
