Had any of you heard of Freddie Sessler before Bill German's book?

Sessler makes a big splash in both LIFE and UNDER THEIR THUMB, and I'm surprised he never appeared on my fan radar before.

I think he was well known way before German's book. Lots of fans knew of him and met him. He was always on the tours.

I may be wrong but doesn't he appear on the pre-show backstage section of the 81 Hampton PPV.
And doesn't Keith mention his name and presence on one of the Voodoo Brew/stew discs? (like "Urrrrrrrrr Sessler you're here!!" )

Oh yes indeed! I recall the first rehearsals the Stones did in Toronto AFTER Freddie had died. A fan said to me....did I know that Sessler had died and frankly NO, I didn't know.We all got to talking about Sessler with Stones security and certainly, everyone who was there knew who he was and what his "role" was in the band (for lack of a better term!).

Keith devotes more time in his book to Freddy Sessler than he does to Mick Taylor or Bill Wyman. Shows you where his affections were, if not his priorities...

Yes, and he looks totally wasted.

"Yes, and he looks totally wasted."

I'd never trust a man who doesn't test his own product before he handles it to you.
So, all in all, for Keith seeing Sessler wasted was a GOOD sign >grinning smiley<

In Jerry Hall's new book MY LIFE IN PICTURES she says about Bill Wyman: "I was always friendly with Bill. He was a bit of an outsider, like me, because neither of us took drugs. People who take drugs always want other people to join them and if you don't they treat you as if you're not cool. But the thing about being made to feel like an outsider is that it hurts your feelings. So we bonded over that."

Thats him, and yes, he appears to have been enjoying the backstage hospitality.

That also might explain the mysterious presence of all those sheep in the shower rooms.

Mr Sessler, took Tony Sanchez place,as Keith, main supplier of illegal substances, and they did developed,a long lasting friendship, until Michael Cohl put a stop to Freddie's,hanging around the band for obvious reasons.
Mr Sessler was a cool dude,he always had the best quality stuff.

That's one I don't understand. Would you please explain it Gazza?

According to Bill German, Sessler was a kind of father figure to Keith.
An important role at least until Keith patched up with Bert again.

Freddie Sessler at 0:25 with Ronnie. Unfortunately not the best quality and without the sheep scene:

Some time ago when the 81 SB tapes and their leaking was discussed someone implied it was through the Sessler connection.
Same question for the New Barbarian boxes of SB recordings that popped in Japan under the title... "The Drug Dealer Tapes" >grinning smiley<

Freddie died in 99 but can we imagine his family cleaned the cupboards after his death and found these treasures?

I think Bockris's book was where I first heard of him too. If I recall, Bockris said he saved Keith and Ronnie's ass in Fordyce by claiming the coke was his, and he was just a hitchiker they picked up.

The 1st mention for me might be Chet Flippo's book (published in the 80's) in which he mentions with tons of irony the fact that Keith and "hitchhiker" Sessler had previously crossed path during the 75 tour.

When you follow the Stones up close during the tours you get to see and know most people around the band.

I never read Bill German's book. Keith speaks glowingly of him, as a father figure, in his book Life.

Who is the older gentleman shown backstage in the "let's spend the night together" Movie. I think shown during neighbors.

Drug Dealer to the Stars per Ronnie, Father Figure and close mate to Keith...I can only imagine what Mick would have to say about him.

It's a great read, and German comes across as pretty honest and down-to-earth. He really admires Keith. Sessler is not depicted in such glowing terms. Our own Video James is prominent in the book. [ducks for cover]
