New restaurant in Chicago: "Nellcote", a tribute to the Stones "excess"

"Seizing on the decadence of its namesake French chateau—the Villa Nellcôte—a
new restaurant is bringing vintage rock 'n' roll swagger back to Chicago. The
space is a tribute to the excess embodied by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
when they recorded the Rolling Stones's seminal album, Exile on Main St., at
the villa in 1971, and Chicago's version is a banshee scream for the return
of the gourmet dining experience."

(and the jokes just keep on coming. skis, decadent restaurants, a tribute
band using the name "rolling stones" as well as the tongue logo, a book
of photographs from one English newspaper with a needlework/button cover...
What a jubilee year! Plus Exile's 40th anniversary in just a few days!)

They sorta cheaped-out on the chandeliers, didn't they? Kinda puny.

The entire place has been made to smell like body odor, cordite, marijuana, spread vagina, and burnt spoons.

The owners of the real Nellcote out to sue. We can be their "banshee scream" back-up.

When I think of what a beautiful villa Nellcote was, in the most exquisite setting Nature could come up with in 1971, I could cry. It was a privilege to see so much beauty.

Chicago has always had some wonderful restaurants but the bozos who put this one together ought to be run out of town.

So...you hung out with John Lennon and you were at Nellcote. Very interesting, Stonesrule...who are you???

Why the uproar?

It's not a "Rolling Stones" restaurant.
It's a high end, European-gourmet type of place.

Me, I'd rather eat pizza or ribs and listen to blues when I hit Chicago, but to each his own!

I don't see Shepherd's Pie on the menu. Just fancy food. Too bougie for me.

I think I'll just eat a burger at home & look through Exile instead.

Greetings from the Jersey Shore.

And I think stonesrule has posted comments in other threads about her visit to Nellcote. If memory serves, it wasn't a happy place.

This is the kind of faux-chic decoration you now can see all around the world (Dubai NYC London Paris etc). Gordon Ramsay is partly responsible for spreading that terribly inauthentic style around the world.

I bet this place will be closed in 9 months, after the initial chill has faded.

- Stonesrule is female
- Stonesrule was at Nellcote
- Stonesrule hung out with Lennon

I think we can create a short list of suspects

This made me bust out laughing.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

It's not even an attempt by ownership to create authenticity, that's just how restaurant workers in Chicagoland straight up ROLL. smoking smiley
