I thought exactly the same when i heard a free sample of it.
He also reads chapter 13, or at least he does in the beginning (I didn't get to that chapter yet, so not sure if he does the whole chapter or not)
Waterstones had both CD and book displayed a few days ago.
You can easily point out to Amazon that they state "can be easily burned to CD" but it can't ... and tell they you want another format. They will refund for the 1st purchase. I've contacted them recently on a faulty mp3 purchase and got a quick refund.

I am sorry, but Johnny Depp is about the worst narrator of an audio-book that I have ever heard of. He speaks in a boring mono-tone. I basically stopped listening to it.
Richards should have narrated the darn book by himself . .I guess he was too busy to do that?
The whole audiobook leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Plus I find Keith Richards' constant chatter about his drug use boring.

Odd, I am fascinated by his reading, although I think his voice imitation sounds more like Ronnie than Keith. I can't stop listening to it (I'm on ch. 9 so far).

I just heard a short sample, but I liked how when he's speaking as Keith in dialogue bits he sounds like Capt. Jack Sparrow.

Wasn't thrilled about the job he did on The Doors' doc, myself. Didn't jive with the "attitude" his voice had.

What would it have taken for Keith to read the entire book, it is his story after all. I mean the the run time is only 4 hours total. It couldn't have taken Keith more than 20 hours to do it himself.

I thought Depp did alright. I liked him much better than the guy (Joe Hurley) who took over at chapter 5. I think Keith reading it himself would have been a bad idea.

Beware of Amazon's "Audible" download version of the unabridged book. This is in a special Audible format which is only playable on ITunes and certain other non-PC devices. It is claimed that the downloaded file "can be easily burned to CD" - but in fact you can't do so with Windows Media Player or with any software that I currently own. So I can only play the damn thing on my PC, not on my CD player or mp3 player. Which was not the object of the exercise.
If I want to listen in my car, I've now got to spend out another £15 or so on the physical CD version.

I used Audacity to put it into MP3 format and now I can listen to it where I wish. It's a free program and easy to use. I personally enjoyed Depp's narration much more than Hurley's. Keith does narrate all of chapter 13.

I was really surprised to find out that the third voice that
Narrates the audio book is Joe Hurley. He was my best friend
when I was at college in Boston and we lost contact many years
ago. We got back in touch after I read the news of the audio book.

I listened to the unabridged version and Keith reads several chapters at the end. He scared me with his imitation of the Rasta woman in his band. There were also "guests" who spoke about their Keith encounters: I remember Tom Waits and... maybe Waddy Wachtel. My memory isn't what it used to be.
I liked Johnny's narration - low-key is good, you don't want a narrator who is too dramatic, it's tiresome and detracts from the book, IMO.
