I read in a local newspaper a nice interview to Buddy Guy.
He was speaking about his last album at 74 years old and so on...
Then he was asked about the guitar Keith gave him after Champagne and Reefer in SAL... And he answered that unfortunately Keith take the guitar right back after the show in the backstage...
A bit disappointing to see that Keith did that just for the show, in front of the video...but...
well...i can't in any way verify if the journalist tell the truth...
but...this man has already done a lot of interviews with lots of musicians for a local blues festival...therefore i tend to think that he's not going to write rubbish...
Since the Stones are in showbusiness there's nothing strange in "acting" this way when making a film. Buddy knows that and he doesn't need Keith's guitar.
I seem to remember Keith saying in an interview at the time SAL came out that giving to the guitar to Buddy was 'spontaneous' and the guitar was a favorite of his. Yet as I recall the guitar was a Guild and not a model I have seen Keith play since the '60s. If he did indeed take it back after the show that would be very pathetic in my view.
it was a Guild Starfire V, which is a model Buddy Guy has famously used. actually my first reaction when i saw the film was that when Keith said to Buddy: "it's yours", he meant it actually was Buddy's, and Keith had simply borrowed it. :E everyone booed me for being cynical - so now i'm not convinced by this one-off report that Keith "took it back". maybe it's not true; or maybe Buddy didn't want to accept it. in any case, handing his axe to the victor was Keith's act of public homage to the man, whether Buddy kept the guitar afterwards or not.
