The Rolling Stones - RCA Studios photo collection
Posted by: His Majesty ()
Date: September 21, 2010 07:38

I'm trying to gather together as many photos as possible of the band at work and play in RCA Studios, Los Angeles, USA.

Your contributions are most welcome! Where possible photographer credits, possible dates and sources would be much appreciated. smiling smiley

probably February/March 1966 - photographer unknown? - scanned from Bill's Rolling With The Stones.

The following 2 photos are by Bill Wyman, probably February/March again...

Thanks for those dearest sssoul! thumbs up

The one you're not so sure about might be taken in the control room, looks like it's from the same day as the 'gold top guitar' shot.

Keith seems to be listening intently to a playback, or day dreaming of the next hit! grinning smiley

Save for the one of Keith with the leather jacket with white fur cuffs etc, all of the above are most likely from the February/March 1966 Aftermath sessions at RCA Studios.

There's a good number of shots of the band in RCA by Bob Bonis and Gered Mankowitz, Bobs spanning a few sessions throughout 1965(Out of our Heads/Aftermath etc), Gered's mostly, if not all coming from the December 1965 Aftermath sessions held there.

Just looking for pics of them actually in RCA. The real hard ones to find are from their final August/September 1966 sessions there for Have Your Seen Your mother single and Between the Buttons session(s). Not even sure if I've seen any!? thumbs up

Thanks for uploading this beautiful photo. I'm very taken with it and have been looking at it for a few minutes now and I realized I've been smiling the whole time.

There's the obvious physical beauty that attracts me - his casual coolness, sweet youthful demeanor - but there's also something else in there that I find so interesting. I'm intrigued with wanting to know what's in his head. My theory is that he's getting a first listen to a new song they just finished and he's in the middle of critiquing it but is secretly excited about what he's hearing.

I feel happy for him.

I know he can't help it, but it's not fair that there isn't enough for everyone who wants some.

A bit OT: RCA Hollywood had three studios. I'm not sure if the Stones used all three or concentrated their recording in one particular room.

The next project is to tar and feather the genius that tore the place down.

All pics from Gered Mankowitz's book :Out of Their Heads
I couldn't scan them of course because the book is so big .

in that case - i will! :E

Keith with his 53 LP Goldtop - the first one looks like the same sessions as some of the above,
and since one of our very sharp-eyed cohorts once pointed out that bit of idiosyncratically-bent excess string
that's identical in both shots, the second one is likely to be from the same timeframe:
