The days are well gone when ya' use to see young fans of mostly ya' Working Class families and the same with the older fans as well.I doubt ya' would of seen to many professional people at a Stones concert in the early years.
Completely different story nowadays when ya' see alot more professional people at concerts..how times have changed..

I always imagined Stones fans in the early days as being teenage girls & boys, not working class types but instead middle class kids living at home & sponging off their parents.

r u kidding? the crowds were much more cohesive together united as a block, a movement a tribe . rock before woodstock, and slightly afterward, (and before LIFE magazine coverage of same etc....) was a more underground thing, even tho it was exploding as a 'youth movement' etc...into the wider culture. it was more together. the crowds were more sophisticated more knowledgeable more individual they had found blues and rock artist as they happened and not as a result of hype. yes hype is always there w promotion it's part of the fun..
not to denigrate millions of great younger fans who care and know much more than i do i'm sure...but GENERALLY speaking....the venues were not ballparks. it was a room where people could kinda feel a oneness as an audience. the artists were fully expected to get down deep. they were listened to...rewards commensurate with what was actually happening etc....in a stadium a lot of that's lost. w big prices u get a lot of status seekers and folks maybe not really 'organically' driven to blues, the more raw folk and country roots, other things in rock....it's a mighty long way since little richard. when the stones hit, they were the along with beetles THE second generation voice of rock and roll...a mighty mighty thing.
it was largely different in lots of ways, and i don't think the modern experience can match it. maybe folks who seen em in clubs, beacon, marquee, or inside arenas, theaters...can tell us more....thanks

MILKYWAY..The Stones fans range right from ya' Working Class right up to ya' Doctors..Lawyers..Police..Judges..etc as we all know.And because they're so good..The Rolling Stones are the peoples Band.And the one thing I like about alot of musicians from the humble working class neighborhoods.That they've gone on and done well for themselves and they dont seen to forget the harder times.
The Beatles were the same.To me they're some of our Working Class Hero's..as John Lennon once said..

Bankers, lawyers, accountant's surveyors... is this friggin' rock 'n roll or what? Still, this comes with charging £150 a ticket and no longer appealing to 12 year-old's. It's life. The Stones are old, not cool, and nor are a large percentage of those who attend their gigs this century, sadly.

Let's face it, a lot of the fans, me included, are older. We tried to get out of the working class. Recent layoffs in the U.S. have landed us back where we began. You don't want to go to a 'challenging' concert anymore. You want to pay your money and see who you paid to see. When you pay a little more you don't have to sit with the misanthropic biker types that think the Stones are like minded rough asses. (Which is hilarious. What do they all weigh? 140 lbs?)

Welcome back, our little Antipodean fan! Hope you had a great holiday in the summer sun.
The Stones' fan base has changed as much as the Stones have...back in the day, tickets cost almost nothing; the tours were just to generate album sales. The original fans were 13 year old girls buying tickets with their tiny pocket money. Now, of course....

The only way to get tickets to geniune fans is to sell them at outlets by queuing. Three nights partying on a pavement is highly recommended and enjoyable. Memories.Quote
