You think you got me in your chains, control me with your devious pain

You think your love is so divine, you pour it out like it was heaven-scented wine
You think your love is all I crave, well, I've got better things to do than be your slave

When you first asked me in, I heard those violins
You quickly pulled the pin, you had no hesitations

There is a rose that bears your name, the bloom's short-lived, it's such a shame

You think your love is so divine, you think I'll drink it like it's heaven-scented wine
You think your love is all I crave, you say I'll worship you till I'm in my grave

So when love passed the ball, you play winner takes it all
Act like it's a carnival, some mad conflagration
I’m like a two-way street, you like to lolly-g
I'm voting with my feet, who needs this aggravation

I'm headed for the door, never see you anymore
I'll be on some distant shore, way out of circulation
No tears will pass my eye, no memory will make me cry
So long, adios, goodbye, I'm off your reservation

Ah yeah, you think your love is so divine, think you're the saviour of mankind
You say your love is like love potion number nine, ah yeah

You think your love is all I crave and I'm the dog that's had its day
So sad to rain on your parade, but I got better things to do than be your slave

Produced by Jimmy Miller, Don Was & The Glimmer Twins

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “Exile On Main Street” 2CD

liked it as an instrumental. like it even more now. the similarity to paint it black isn't a prob for me. i wish more songs were similar to it.

I hate the vocal parts on this song!

It sounded perfect without the update. The instrumental was good enough for me. It had its charm and a bizarre thing with that whole riff.
The vocals are destroying the whole atmosphere of the song. Especially when Jagger sings 'Diviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiineeee...'

I always said Exile is more the sum of the parts (whereas Side B of Let It Bleed is the optimum) - with the exception of Rocks Off. Now I had to add So Divine to my comment.

A good song but the new keith guitar part is bad. Same licks as he tries to play a solo during the last tour. OK you can say it's still negative but truth is truth...

Yeah, that "diviiiineee"-part is quite unnerving. Listening to the bootleg-version I've always wondered which vocal part was intended for this instrumental. And the version we've got now, just doesn't serve IMO, as it's mostly just emulating the guitar figure during the verses. But it's always a hard task, I guess, to come up with a vocal part for a backing track that's as distinctive and melodic as this. It's almost tailor-made for being an instrumental.

The chorus is about as good as it gets for Stones fans. Certainly one of the best Exile bonus tracks. Amost as good as PMS.

It's a great song, I love the similiarity to Paint It Black.

Pass The Wine and So Divine nearly sound like they would be more like GHS outs to me. Has Anyone else noticed that?? I mean I realize when they were recorded and all-I'm just talking more about the overall sound of the songs....

Pass The Wine absolutely not. It has nothing to do with the GHS album, musically.

Well. I mean I realize they are Exile songs but these two to me seem to have a more polished and complex sound. Kinda like Exile is more like a loose jam and Goats is more structured. But thats just how it strikes me. Just wanted to see what others thought..

Along with Dancing in the Light, this is my least favorite track on the Exile bonus disc. As with DITL, what was once a pretty good instrumental has now been ruined by Jagger's overly-emotive vocals. Hey Mick, please chill out!!! Your voice is just one of the many instruments in the band. It's not meant to be Mick Jagger backed by the Stones. It's the Rolling fúcking Stones, okay?

This track seems to have some kind of hippy quality to it that keeps me from actually liking it completely. Keith's new bit sucks hard.

And I find Mick's vocals very nerving - he's trying too hard.

I totally love this tune, vocals included. Throws you for a loop with the PIB intro, but then turns into a really nice, moody tune with a killer chorus.
