Can you believe it, I won no medals in this love game
I've been resting on my laurels, I'm a bad loser, I'm a yard off my pace
I smelled rubber and I soon discovered that you'd gone for good
My indiscretions made a bad impression, guess I was misunderstood

I thought you needed my lovin', but it's my heart that you stole
I thought you wanted my money, but you plundered my soul, plundered my soul

I started asking around, but your friends' pretty lips were sealed
I wrote a letter full of trite confessions about wounds that heal
I heard some gossip you'd become an alcoholic and you were drying out
So I phoned every clinic in the yellow pages, not a trace about

I thought you needed my lovin', but it's my heart that you stole
I thought you wanted my money, but you plundered my soul, you plundered my soul

I ain't quitting, but I'm close to admitting, I'm a sorry case
But on quiet reflection, my sad rejection's not a total disgrace
But I do miss your quick repartee and the smile that lights up your face
You'll be a hard act to follow, a bitter pill to swallow
You'll be tough, you’ll be tough to replace

I thought you wanted my lovin', but it's my heart that you stole
You were a trick up my sleeve, my ace in the hole
I thought you wanted my money, but you plundered my soul
Oh, plundered my soul, oh yeah, you plundered my soul, yeah, yeah…

Produced by Jimmy Miller, Don Was & The Glimmer Twins

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “Plundered My Soul / All Down The Line” 7” single

Fantastic song. Couldn't belive my ears when I first heard it on Youtube. I love the sound of Bill's bass. All though many seems to disagree, I think Mick's vocals are great too. Best "new" song we had since 1983 imo.

By far the best new song on the Exile deluxe, the version with Mick Taylor's lead guitar all over it is GOLD.

The only real good song of the Deluxe package. I do think it's the best thing they released since the mid-80's. Strangely the Itunes single version is much better than the version on the album.

Super song...It really rocks..It took me a few spins to love it...Jagger's vocals are on the wild side...ha..A lot of screaming..
But one of the best songs the stones have done in years...

Best single since Undercover of the Night, although Saint of Me is excellent as well.

I remember on its first appearance there was criticism of the intro - i.e. that it wasn't a strong enough opening riff - and yet these days I find that to me it's one of the most instantly recognisable openings to a Stones song - and one that I'm delighted to hear because I know I'm going to enjoy what follows.

Simply because you can hear Taylor on the Itune version.

On the Itunes version you can hear Taylor during the first verse (not on the CD & single version), but the rest of the song is the same, isn't it?

Best song since Black& Blue. It's got that genuine early 7-tees sound.

The intro is great, not archetypical, very unusual. I love it!!!!!!!!!!!

A good song, but I still can't get over Jagger's over-the-top vocal. Maybe it's just me.

I'm still craving for a guitar solo (from Mick T, of course) and/or a bridge in this song. But I agree it's the best track on the bonus CD.

it's not. renders what could have been a very good song unlistenable for me (and others, i presume)....

I really do like Plundered My Soul. But does it remind you of another Rolling Stones song on that album? I am thinking it the rhythm guitar reminds me of Tumbling Dice a little bit.

But it is the best thing the Stones put out in 30 years.

Are you saying Jagger is overtopping the vocal?

I think it's pretty damn good. Too bad Taylor is mixed out of the tune so much.

For the itunes version: see the video up here. Here's the single version which is the same as the version on cd:

i am saying that jagger sucks the life and soul out of the song with his overly-mannered vocals, much as he did on his last solo album and ABB. he should not be allowed near a studio microphone without a BAC of at least .09

Yes. I was one of the people who said this and now am happy to admit that I have changed my mind and love the intro.

Well, I don't care too much for Taylor's guitar on this track, but I just love Jagger's backup vocals, and te Itunes version has him doing that from the starts. At first I didn't like the backup vocals, I thought it was fake. But now I absolutely love it!
