We're simpatico. That is exactly the first thing i thought: Allmans. i mean that in a good way too, and, it was before I read your comment.

Also it reminds me a bit of J Mellencamp's I fight Authority. Meaning only that initial guitar lick, slower, but, yet similar.

Some what Led Zep-like too.

I love most of Tom Petty's stuff and it's good to hear he's back - but I don't like this one. Whatever it is that makes Tom's band sound like themselves and not just like every other generic rock band is missing here, for me. Competent, but it could be just about anybody...

Perhaps he's taking his youthful influences into the Heartbreakers sound as he did with the brilliant MUDCRUTCH album a couple years back. Lest we forget, the "Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers" schtick was a timely jump onto the same bandwagon as Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Elvis Costello & The Attractions, Graham Parker & The Rumour, et al. MUDCRUTCH seemed to be the work of a group whose favored influential records came out in the early seventies.

petty and cocker (we call it the betty crocker tour) coming up this weekend....can't wait.

I agree...saw him back in 2002 and he did a couple of deeper cuts, which were very cool...but otherwise, TP sure likes his warhorses! Good to see "Mystic Eyes" in there again (great Van Morrison/Them tune)...enjoyed hearing that one in 2006.

New song sounds good!

I'm seeing him in Oakland this Saturday for the first time. Looking forward to it!

great to hear Mike Campbell burning it up at the end of that one! very underrated guitar player

he's spectacular. the whole band is. i miss stan on drums (and profoundly excellent second voke harmonies and bg vokes!) ... but they have original bass player back; tho howie's death very tragic... the rest of them are together i think. he just rules the radio he sounds so good; like his songs and his emotions in his singing very much

Great to hear some new stuff from Petty.

Don't love that riff running through the song that much but do like the stop time changes. The whole song should have been made with the tempo cord changes from the last minute IMO. That rocked.

I keep listening to this song and I'm struck by the SOUND of the guitars ... WOW!!! Such a rich, gorgeous sound.

For some reason, this track gives me hope that the Stones can pull one more out of their hat.

Yeah, the guitars sound fabulous, Campbell and Petty are the perfect foils for each other. The production on that track also sounds so crisp and ROCK AND ROLL. I will be getting Mojo for sure.

Mojo's opener is pretty cool. The bouncy riff kind've reminds me of I Can't Be Satisfied.

I used to like his recent solo disk 'Highway Companion' and now this is even better...
he always had something that I couldn't fall in love with completely but he's a good artist and I quite often listen to his works.
