Do they record all of their shows at the mixing board?

Wouldn't you think that the Stones are recording every bit of audio and video at each show? Does anyone have any info on this? I would like to know that the two shows that I attended in 2006 do exist and that there is a possibility that someday I may be able to hear them. If they aren't recording their tours, I would think that to be preposterous. Why would they waste a possible source of revenue like that?

Based on a book or two that I've read, yes, they have recorded shows. Chet Flippo mentions it in his book. The thing in Canada. He mentions Mick taking notes etc.

I would think they record every show. How far back in terms of what tours who knows. I think nowadays shows are recorded just to CD or DAT and are just archived.

Do I know for sure? Hell no. But I've seen enough bands that do it it's probably a normal thing to do.

I think most bands, especially big ones like the Stones, record all shows for posterity, if nothing else. Always good to have some tape on hand for that possible contract-filling live album.

You're better off hoping for an audience recording, at best, of any show you've been to though. Maybe somewhere soundboard recordings of every show (as skipstone said) are archived, but a relatively small amount find their way into circulation. At any rate, even if the Stones and their crew are not professionally taping, odds are that SOMEBODY is.

More interesting is if they also have recorded all the concerts from the 69-73 era soundboardwise, when they were at their (live) peak. And thus recorded in such a way that it is possible to make decent live albums from that period as yet. Though I don't think those virtual albums will ever see the light of life (and if so, maybe after about another 40 years).

It would be cool if they could all be made available in some kind of online store, so that you can listen to everything, pick your favorite versions of each song, and then create your own customized ultimate live album.

I don't think it's going to happen, though.

>>I don't think it's going to happen, though.<<

since the latest twist with UMG and EOMS + Mick's remarks, I wouldn't bank on that.

some folks believed the Berlin Wall would only come down when Hell freezes over.

there is hope.

Didn't Mathjis once mention they recorded EVERY show on a rudimentary device (8 tracks reel-tor-reel) since 1972?

Don't The Who do this. The Dead and Black Crowes certainly make their concerts available.

For me, one of the greatest things that could happen would be if they would make every show available that they have recorded, for example since 1972, as its been mentioned on this thread every show may have been recorded since then.

Then, you could download a certain show for a fee. We know what they're like with money, and I'm sure that would generate them a lot of cash.

Wow, I love the picture of the hard drives! Thanks for posting that, I didn't see it. I wish the picture included a little bit more to the right as that would actually show the two concerts I was at that I want to get my hands on. I heard a version of Midnight Rambler that they did and I sure wish I could hear it again. Keith and Ronnie made some chords in it that we just great. (Regina Oct. 2006) I'm never going to forget that.

C'mon Mick, let me get my hands on those live shows!

Absolutely, all they would have to do is create some kind of online archive. Then let us buy the shows we want.

Someday when I retire in about 30 some years, I hope to use that time to hear every Stones, Dylan, Hendrix, Beatles, Merle Haggard, SRV, you name it concert and outtake.

Some 1969 and 1970 (the Holy Grail of live Stones) would be nice too...

15 €/$ a show in Flac format with a PDF artwork
That'd be perfect

I am sure they can hire some students in sound engineering as (underpaid) trainees to do the cleaning/editing/mastering job. This guys would have a great line on their resumé and everybody would be happy.

And that for 15 euro/dollar a show? Are you mad or something? (No offense intended of course). I would say: 3 e/d a show, at maximum.

It would, but we don't know how many shows were recorded on those tours, because its been said every show since 72 may have been recorded, but we don't know how many shows before then were.

Of course I like the 69 tour but it would be great to have a decent soundboard of a Europe 70 show, as the only soundboard from that tour is the rough sbd from Paris which I think is worse then some audience recordings.

Agreed. The Essen Oct. 7 (VGP 348) audience is preferable to the Paris 'soundboard'.

The storage for all those years had a cost, and since the Stones aren't philantropists (why would they ?), I believe that less than 10 €/$ for a complete show will never happen.

I'm sure a lot of people here would buy at least 5 shows each, but this wouldn't be a huge success.
A lot of people may order "their" concert before the show or right afterwards, but only hardcore fans will be interested into getting these recordings 20 years later...

They missed a business that Metallica, Pearl Jam, The Who, KISS and many others are doing for years now.
