I've always thought this version that has surfaced on bootleg ran a semitone too fast...

Compared to how tumbling dice turned out, Id say it is a slight bit faster.

Like a work-in-progress Tumbling Dice ?

Only my opinion SwayStones - but yeah, development stage. I remember reading somewhere that they worked on the song for a number of days- or maybe longer. Interesting to hear a work in progress.

Get A Line on You (VGP), Honky Tonk Piggies, Lonely at The Top (VGP), Lost Sessions1 (Empress Valley), Sticky Fingers Alternate, Wingless Angel, Hillside Blues, & more have this running in the key of 'G'. Others have it running a semi-tone higher in Ab.

The new version is a touch faster than "G'

SwayStones, if you listen well you'll hear that it runs faster at the end of the song (my wife noticed it as well). Has nothing to do with the tone. If you don't have it on bootleg you'll certainly can find it on YT to compare. Always interesting: Stones music research!

kleermaker, I don't recall I wrote it has something to do with the tone .
I do have the bootlegs to compare -Exile Stones/Tropical Deseases/Lonely at the Top/SF Alternate but I just thought the new Exile version was running faster .

I referred to vox12string's post up here. I have to compare it myself yet.

What is that anyway? What is "double-speed"? It's just fast - faster than Tumbling Dice. Honkier, a good plonk, a bit rumbly and very frantic.

Oh I read it alright. I guess I didn't understand that you didn't seem to know it was a work in progress of what became Tumbling Dice. And just to clarify, and I'm not not being a dunt, you did not say "faster" in any of your posts!

OK well at least it's not Keith saying "Oh it's as fast as Rip This Joint" or whatever it is he's always said about Flip The Switch.

I know that 'Good Time Women' morphed into 'Tumbling Dice', but It holds up on it's own - and surely, if it hadn't had transformed into the clasic that it did, it could have been a splendid addition to 'Exile' in it's own right.

If it was literally 'doulbe speed' it would sound like Exile on Chipmunk Street.

I've done a little experiment and my conclusion is that the Bonus CD GTW version runs exactly as fast as the bootleg version.

Firstly I listened to both versions one after another. Conclusion: no speed difference between them.

Secondly I've played the Bonus version simultaneously with the bootleg version, using VLC-player for the Bonus Version and YouTube for the bootleg version. See this link:

Conclusion: no speed difference.

Thirdly I used the metronome to compare. It confirmed my listening conclusion and the VLC/Bonus CD-YT/Bootleg comparison.

For the metronome: see this link: [www.popschoolmaastricht.nl]

Seems a pretty underpinned conclusion to me.
