Is there anything in the lyric about Sophia Loren?

Sophia Loren probably was the working title back in the 70's. Just like Aladdin Story was for So Divine. Just a guess...

There's one line I can't get yet - anybody got it?
(Well, thanks to Rockman that line's now complete).

Anyway, I think the rest is:

Walking down the street with a sad face
Always complaining ‘bout the rat race
Nobody said that life was free and easy
Your job it sucks, it’s on the line
Your wife act mean, your kids all cry
I need something that’s guaranteed to please me – but listen – i’ll tell ya -
I’m glad to be alive and kicking
I’m glad to hear my heart’s still ticking
Pass me the wine, baby, and let’s make some love!

Sometimes things don’t work out the way you want
I don’t know
If I’m gonna laugh or cry

Your friends’ll never call you back
You’re feeling such a sad sack
Like some snack that’s gone all cold and greasy
The car you drive a rusty wreck
It’s always you that pays the check
Who said life was warm and peachy? – but listen – yeah, I’ll tell ya –
I’m glad to be alive and kicking
My blood is up, my pulse is quick
Pass the wine, boy – let’s make some love!

Sometimes things don’t work out the way you want
I wonder why – I wonder why
Sometimes mistakes come back to haunt you, babe
I don’t know
Whether to laugh or cry

I’m glad to be alive and kicking
Glad to be alive and kicking
I’m glad to have a pot to piss in
Glad to be alive and kicking

You got to be alive and kicking

Got to be alive and kicking
Good to be alive and kicking
Glad to see the plot is thickening

Pass the wine – let’s make some love
Let’s make some love
Let’s make some love
Let’s make some love...

Love the harp on this one - I'd guess that was part of the original track?

Great song, but I'm sure it is from a much more recent era - it just has a different sound to everything else, more polished, more like something from the 90's.

Even the drumming seems too 'modern' for what purports to be early 70's...I could be wrong - it's only my opinion and as I said I love the song

Yes, it is, isn't it. Funny how you can't hear something that's so clear once you know what it is...

Thanks Rockman.

Yeah Green Lady ... know EXACTLY what ya mean.....

On very first play of Pass The Wine when Mick sings
I'm glad to be alive and kicking thought he sang I’m glad to be a lion king ....

But don't worry...adjusted my wig and got it second time round

Love this track, not like the others, were the vocals seem forced to go with the backing tracks. This one imo indeed has the "Exile" feel to it..

"No dope smoking no beer sold after 12 o'clock"

The drumming is reminiscent of the jam section of Can't You hear Me Knocking. Both bear a decided Santana influence, which must have been speeing into the Sticky Fingers sessions, though Pass the Wine actually sounds more like War!

Candidates for my favourite all time lyrics:
I thought you wanted my money
but you plundered my soul

Glad to be alive and kicking
I’m glad to have a pot to piss in

I love how the sentiment of "Soul Survivor" (...gonna be the death of me..)is followed up here with "Got to be alive and kicking". I also think Jagger's, "I think I've been here before" on "Signifying" refers to the whole process of what he was doing with these old tracks.

Except for the fact that Signifying's vocals are old...
And even on the bootleg version he says the same lyric.

Old song for sure. It sounds like the Black Crowes. They've been imitating the 72 Stones for years.

Very Rolling Stones!

Can you name something The Rolling Stones wrote/did isn't very Rolling Stones" and if so why? With other words: the qualification "very Rolling Stones" does say nothing, except that by using it you express that you feel confortable with something of The Rolling Stones.

It's simply your perception of The Rolling Stones. For instance: someone else could just as justly say: 'very un-Rolling Stones' when not feeling comfortable with something of the Rolling Stones. It's a meaningless qualification, also because the RS did so many different things. Jagger used the words "very ecclectic", which applies to the whole oeuvre of the RS.

no, that's not the way I think.

we've got prototypes of typical Stones song. driving Keith rhythm guitar with catchy riffs, melodic Woody/Taylor solo + fills and totally typical, instantly recognizable Mick vocal. blues influenced rock (and roll).

the way the band typically sounds, is produced... well...

This is one fantastic song! I love the funky groove and lyrics. I am having a pool party soon, and this song will surely get people moving!

Unlike a lot of you, I am glad for the recent overdubs. I always like hearing new things from them to see where they're at, soooo it's nice to know they are alive and kickin! And, Mick sounds damn good if you ask me. (both Micks)

Kudos to Mick for getting these songs out there!
