Mick is a very distinctive harp player. I can spot him every time.

Of course Brian was much better in the early days.
But Mick is very clever and it makes no sense to compare them now.

Absolutely true!smileys with beer

The question is who WAS the better; not who IS the better...
Which, of course, means you can only compare what they played before Brian died!

I think Ronnie is a great harp player, too. I was listening to the 1234-album today. Some brilliant, Sugar Blue-ish harp playing in there.

Yeah, Ronnie's musicanship is in parts similar to Brians.
He's quite changeable and has been doing many instruments as well.
I always liked his drumming like on Sleep tonight.

Sugar Blue

Of course Sugar Blue is a player of a totally different league than Mick or Brian.

He is a decent sax player as well. Bobby Keys taught him smiling smiley

Mick is a lot better; as 71Tele said, Mick had more time to improve and get better.

a pickin' out dem 'booger-wooger' notes he knows sooooo well ....

(sorry, I couldn't resist, it's just my VERY WARPED humor getting the best of me.
I really don't mean any disrepect to the man...)

now in answer to the question that was asked... I would have to say that Brian definitely was the better harp player ... but Mick became a damned good harp player too in his own right. I totally agree with whoever posted that the comparison between the 2 should only be from 62-69 ...

"Doctor please, some more men please,
To Cotchford Farm, out by the pool...

What a drag it is they couldn't revive him"

Brian Jones 2/28/42 - 7/2/69

Somebody credited "Little By Little" to Brian. That was Mick.

Great harmonica by Brian - my favourites:

I Want To Be Loved
Stoned
I Just Want To Make Love To You
Not Fade Away
Good Times, Bad Times
Cops And Robbers
2120 South Michigan Avenue
Look What You´ve Done
The Under Assistant...
High And Dry

Mick was not this good 1963-1966!
IMHO, the first "Mick on harmonica track" that really stood out was Midninght Rambler.

Brian sounds great on High and Dry. Charlie Watts . . what the heck was he thinking of . . Charlie sounds horrible.

not fair cause brian died so young but brian was uber derivative; which was great actually...a 'purist' in his own mind and played with super spirit; crazy joy; infectious...
with mick, i have benefit of lonnggg time having enjoyed him as young artist and grow with him and music as he matured as an artist and player etc....
...that bein' admitted.... mick seems have more 'tone' per se...more subtle and dimensional touch with it; more shades?? even tho, like brian, certainly rooted in 'stadard' ole time chi blues kinda deal...
mick has more 'weight' and emotion in tone and delivery probably fair to say...also, and avoiding obvious joke here, mick as a singer...once described as "singing as if his tongue was on fire"... knows a thing or two about 'tongue' and technique from big voke delivery that he can translate to mouth breath for beautiful integrated rhythmical harmonica perfect w keith's git... imo....
