I think I read somewhere that the original Exile is Keith's handwriting.

This is not a font, it's handwritten but the letter type used is just a plain type as capital Arial

I daresay it's better than the version on Exile!!

(So, for that matter, is the acoustic version, IMO).

This version is interesting. It really shows that tune taking shape more and more into what it became. Started out as country major chords, sounding wholesome, on the acoustic version. Here you can hear a few minor thirds already thrown in there. Some of the punches are already there; I think the piano is telling Taylor's lead where to go on later versions.

The acoustic bootleg version is in a minor key. That's musically the biggest difference with the album version and is 'decisive' for the difference of 'athmosphere' between these two version (in minor and in major).

There are no minor chords in the acoustic ADTL or this version at all.

The acoustic one is in the key of A (version is have runs a bit too fast), while this version is in D. All major chords though.

The acoustic one is major chords all the way.
Thijs is totally right.
And the final version also is major chords. But my point was not about 'chords'; it is about major thirds; in the bluesy scales. (e.g using the note 'G' in the key of E etc)

I mean Mick's vocals, which are dominant in the acoustic version.

I love it. But I do think it sounds like the Leeds version of "Dead Flowers" at this stage.

This just tells me there's a lot more material like this hanging around that did not make the cut for this release. And it's ridiculous that this is some 'bonus track' as opposed to actually being part of this "outtakes and alternates" package. Duh? THIS is the stuff a lot of us were hoping for.

Hopefully they are using the Exile release as a teaser for a series of vault releases or some for of 'box set' - remember those?

This should have been on the B-side of the PMS 45, which I had no luck tracking down.

That seems to have been the plan originally... Perhaps they couldn't get it finished in time?

What do you mean? Mick's singing minor over the A major chord scheme?

Bollocks.

Could be F# minor theoretical.

That scale works for most of the tune as does A Major, except for when they go to the bridge which is where the C and G notes get introduced.

So a mix of A Major and A minor pentatonic!?
