where did i say i was worried about that or anything? i offered an opinion and explanation to the phenonmenon where there seems to be a lot enthusiasm at the outset (ABB is the example) and then not so much later. i don't worry - consider me the alfred e. neuman of stones fans....

Okay, using the term "being worried" was just my way to interpet your intentions or, to say it another words, to explain the phemonenon I find interesting in your postgrinning smiley And I still think I am right in analyzing your words even though you don't agree with me... confused smiley(but no reason to go there -> pseudo-stuff).

Anyway - you are probably right with your analysis - even though I think this is not a "normal" case. I see some people here being reserved because they messed with the original tapes, etc. and this fact - adding Don Was, Jagger's recent voice, etc - to the holy EXILE out-takes seems to be the reason to mock the product (no matter how good it might sound)... And I need to admit I was thinking that way before the bloody song just got me hooked and couldn't resist the seirene call of it...

Okay, so I have listened to this a few more times. Like others, I am not too thrilled with the mix. Vocals WAY too high, and WHERE is Keith?? The only guitar I am really hearing is Mick T and his licks. I can hardly detect any rhythm guitar here. Anybody else notice this?

The only thing worth predominantly getting excited about on Plundered My Soul is Mick Taylor's guitaring in my opinion. That for me is the be all and end all to what makes this track worth listening to. However, there is a small part that perhaps is effective concerning Jagger's vocal and that's nearing the end of the song when he stops straining to sing the words and he relaxes to deliver a few ab libs. It's that brief moment where jagger displays rare senitivity, and is backed by Taylor's distinctive guitar sound that i could truly feel transported back to the early seventies. But as i say, that's only very briefly when everything finally comes together. It's just a shame it comes a little too late.

I love this song. The guitar intro and the piano and drums alone do it for me.

and if you took the drums away and left the guitar and piano alone would kill me anyway. just love that real piano sound..on a rock track

and then the lyrics just kill me. I mowed and weeded the whole lawn 1/2 acre listening to this on my ipod and I don't even remember mowing anything....

I left the violets and dandelions alone tho

i think BV is great!! he does not try to influence others opinions even if he disagrees with his own posts... thats super thank you BV... i get flak some of my dear iorr friends sometimes in hearty, mebbe even disgusted, disagreement... i don't ever expect my little or anybodys little slant on whatever would stop some others from totally loving something i might critique w different impression etc.... i LIKE seeing everybodys take... i appreciate anything honest from feelings, even peeps who have different age, diifferent tours, different "Contemporary" relationship with whatever decade they really FIRST loved a tour or a new release etc....

so...amidst some of the gentle fur flying etc... it's good to see a moderator/owner who not pushy...no ones removed for saying whatever except for obvious rules about no politiking, no religious slurs....

just occured to me, thank you bv i[m grateful; good show, what a champ.... ty

What are you alluding to? This is so out of context it stupifies me.

it STUPIFIED U??? hawww, wasn't even trying. caint take the credit u a natural baby! hawwww ;-)

lots of various sharp disagreements here. was giving thanks for somewhat civil arena in which lottsa fans could comment w out political correctness. thought it clear as a thuddd. bell. cie la vie say the old folks it goes to show u never can tell.... felt like it did it. mybad...
sigh

in context mick sound like a comic parody of a paranoid mick jagger impersonation by robin williams or somebody else who needs to lay off the coffee and antidepressants, or take more, or something...lisa on a exoms trak???? is it true??? whoa they are soooo lost.
me let nothing taketh away the sublime perfection of original release in toto from various previously remastered releasead sources, going back to vinyl and forward to certain labels cds mastering for repro.....

wanna hear good time women and stuff w original vocals. mick overacted this version horribly/..... he swings for the fences...mebbe thats what he thinks and you think he needs to do to distinguish his signature (and great) affectations on to the current NOISE assault of modern cultcha... but it's just ridick. hard sonics in remastering too... great track for most part!! glad it's here but i think micks characterization is just plain boring overstrident theatre.,...
stupifying that mick would think this take was IT... wow.

I love the melody and the lead parts from Mick T. I've played the song many times. It isn't really my cup of tea, but... I don't know... I think it's the chord progression (A and B minor). It's so catchy.

Only the vocals aren't that good. You can hear Jagger trying to sing 'younger' with a swagger. It's ok, but it gets annoying. But hey, the song is rather cool! ;-)

Enjoyable, yet inferior. Easy to see why this was left in the can in the first place. Simply put, a reject back in the day.
With that said, it is enjoyable, and probably their best single in many, many years!

The "best song since..." line has been used an awful lot every time the Stones release new material. And then a few months or years go by and that old new song just doesn't seem to shine so bright anymore.

A small crumb when we're so starved for new material is bound to cause over- excitement. I'm withholding judgment on "Plundered" till I've heard it on my own stereo, instead of just my lousy computer speakers.

When Back Of My Hand came out before the release of ABB. People said it was the best song in 25 years. 6 months later the same people said it was too calculated and formulated. Keep crying people. You better be thankful for what we have. years from now The Stones might be gone and you will really cry then. Be thankful for what you have and don't beg and wish for what you don't have.

didn't care much for bridges to babylon or a bigger bang played them a few times and haven't touch them in yrs the 3 live albums "no security ,live licks, and shine a light" are ok but they all sound the same. my opinion on them is the same as when i first bought them so when i say that plundered my soul is the best thing the stones have released in 15yrs , i actually belive it. is it the exile hype? is it because mick taylor plays on it? i don't know and don't care. hearing plundered my soul puts a smile on my face and for me that's all that matters.

sorry for confusion skipstone. was out of context; inspired thanx to bv in middle of various discussions and opines...; see how it mighta made you say ??????wtf???????

funny bout my response to mick's over the top approach here. RJ from ABB sooo over the top in character but for me, somehow... i loved that!! still do. still think it worked really FINE..on that track. i still love that track. as time goes by more peeps will realize it one of the few 'classic' trax since dw... imo.

I'm the on eman on here that actually likes Bridges to babylon and A Bigger bang. I mean REALLY LIKES them both.

And, I really dig Plundered My Soul. I can appreciate different eras and sounds. Who cares if it's a patch job, I mean really, get over that. It's a good song and far better than an outtake from a nearly 40 year old DOUBLE album should be.

Yeah, it could be so but there are other ways to look at it...

It coul've been the case - like mentioned by many - that is resembles too much "Tumblin' Dice" or some other song and it didn't have a natural place in the album. And then they just forget it.

But there have been songs that didn't make certain album but did some other album afterwards. In fact, EXILE has "left-overs" from LET IT BLEED and STICKY FINGERS ("Shine A Light", "Loving Cup"winking smiley. And then we have TATTOO YOU, an album made of out-takes. I think the reason to not include "Worried Bout You" to BLACK&BLUE was simply the reason that there were alredy too many slow ballads there ("Memory Motel", "Fool to Cry"winking smiley. But I think it is a very strong song.(The same kind of thing can be said of "Tops" and "Waitin On A Friend" for not making GOATS HEAD SOAP that already had "Winter", "100 Years Ago", "Coming Down Again" and "Angie" in it. Now that's what I call a competetion!)

And if we forget the beautiful perfectness of EXILE and start speculate with the possibility that, say, a cut like "Turd On The Run", "Wanna See His Face" or "Casino Boogie" would not have made the album and would be instead released now as a left-over, how would we view them NOW? Are they really so strong cuts taken by themselves, out of their original context? My hint is that they are not. If someone claims that these are "strong songs" I think one is just appreciating the great wholeness of EXILE in where those songs do have a function. (This was way before the faceless collection of all the songs they somehow came up in a half-minute that was to be called A BIGGER BANG.)

So my take is that there are songs perhaps made for every Stones album (pace ABB ) that are not released because they are "too poor" but only because they didn't have a natural place or a function in that given album. The existence of TATTOO YOU is the best argument for that. Another question is how much they were "together" and how much needs to be worked to finish them. The Stones seemingly only finish the songs that ARE going to make the album and leave the others to vaults.

<The only thing worth predominantly getting excited about on Plundered My Soul is Mick Taylor's guitaring in my opinion.>

IMO, Taylor's guitar is pretty standard on this track. Suits the song just fine, nothing more.

The drum track sounds very composite - made up of loops.
It could well be a Jimmy Miller drum track. He was the drummer on Happy and the end drum coda on TD - the drum track here is very similar to his playing.
I guess they would have to use loops to make it perfectly in time for over dubbing etc and more radio friendly.

For the first time I listen to the whole song, although I had some doubts about Mick's new voice I must admit Mick's voice fits very well on the song actually I find it very good

Aren't you over-analysing here? grinning smiley Yes I get your point about the drum track, it probably is edited with studio trickery to make it in time, wouldn't surprise me if they used loops.

Don, where are the working tapes?
