Ok, haven't posted anything on here for ages, but I just had to return to express how ridiculously excited and happy I feel everytime I hear Plundered My Soul on the radio here in Greece... I don't know what it is, probably the fact that it has an Exile vibe and at the same time it is a "new" song (with the rerecordings and all)... It's one of the songs they ve put out that really suits the radio in a weird way.... Love the feeling I get!!! Just thought I'd share this with you all..!

Who the f*ck is Mick Jagger?

I'm ridiculously excited they are playing it ANYWHERE on the radio.
Sadly, I've NEVER heard it on the radio!

I thought if us weird Greeks play it on the radio it must be much more common elsewhere.. To tell you the whole story though, it's either one or two stations that play it, ones that play rock music (in the wider sense) exclusively. It's not like the really mainstream stations have embraced it. But still! It's a very nice surprise when it happens!

I love the new Stones song, Plundered My Soul. But I suddenly realized what I do not like about PMS. Mick Taylor's guitar work, as usual, is excellent, but at the same time it is too loud, incessant, overwhelming, and intrusive. It detracts from Jagger and the self harmonizing, the rhythm machine of Watts and Wyman, Keith's playing, and the piano. In fact, Taylor has been too assertive on many of the CD's he has contributed to.

I remember reading somewhere that Keith had threatened to punch Taylor at a live concert, because Taylor kept increasing the volume of his guitar. Keith apparently felt he was being slighted, since he had after all written most of the songs and believed he could not be heard.

Listen to PMS on more time. Taylor dominates this song and many other songs. He almost ruins it. PMS is too much Taylor and not enough Stones.

confused smiley Taylor makes the song come alive, just like the rest of the bandmembers.

FIRST of all, I agree with Amsterdamned...second of all, it isn't Mick Taylor that is mixing the record...that is Mick Jagger/Don Was, so it was their choice for how loud Taylor is. THIRD OF ALL, I love Taylor mixed at this level...he and Jagger's vocals/backgrounds for me, drive this toon.

Today i got my Uk/EU promo CD,
it sounds different to my ears. is that right? More background vocals
in the verses, more audible piano, some more Taylor!?

There seems to be a special radio mix according to nzentgraf.de,
maybe that´s the one on the promo.

I would say B&B era, when their guitar sound was still warm, but unmistakable raw.

I like the song too. But 2 points of critic: Mick's vocals are not top and the overall sound is a bit metallic and thin.

I don't know but it is still getting better and better. The tempo and the nuances, those little magic things... just hypnotic.

I wonder how it sound when Ronnie just play with it, the song is not bad ............. but that`s all it is!

Bill is fantastic on it. Am listening to it more to pick out the Taylor parts. To be honest, his soloing sounds like it could have been recorded in 1972, and that's not a bad thing. Mick's lyrics are great. It really made my summer to hear this, like Exile made my Summer of '72.

For me, same as Beatles Anthology, I wish they had just left things alone and released them 'as is', the newly overdubbed tracks are oddities, fake stones oddities at that.

Things like this add nothing to recorded legacies, only cheapen them.

All my opinion of course. smiling smiley

Left them without vocals and guitar overdub? I think Mick did a good job. Hmm,I don't know if it would have worked as an instrumental. I'll admit I wasn't wild with Jeff Lynne's over production on Beatles Anthology, but it still had a a lot of impact hearing Paul and George play on Free As a Bird. That bare Lennon track gave the three survivors something to rally around.

Whatever happened to
the love that we once knew?

sure, mick did "a good job" in the craftsman sense in fleshing out the fragments. But is anyone (besides him, perhaps) the better for it? I'm not sure I'd say so.

It would be the same then.

Fortunately it's a Taylor era song, thus a great song.
Jagger's & Taylor's intuition.

Have to agree with DOXA. Its the first Stones song in a long time that has that certain Stones groove. Love Taylors guitar work. Sure beats rough justice or anything else on ABB.

I love the sound of the vocals when Mick howls 'soul' - it sounds HUGE, like you can hear the back of a big room, on the 'soul''s that Taylor does the chug guitar line right after, not the one or whatever where Jagger sings all high and la la shit like at the end.

Plundered is aging well to me. It worked.

I agree with 24FPS...

Bill dominates the song. Its so much better hearing a Stones song with Bill on bass, and a great treat for a "new" Stones song to come out with Bill on bass.

Fantastic song. Obviously with an 2009 Stones-sound, which I don't like:
It's as thin as Steel Wheels.. lot's of high, less bass. It's painfull for my ears.

But musically, love it!

Wonderfull song, I really love it. And for me, the version on the deluxe edition of exile doesn´t really sound like 2010, becaus it has this muddy mix, almost the "sound of wall" like exile. something different is the single-mix, released to download with mick t. all over the place. nice (because of mick t.), but very "modern".

Now looking forward to see ladies & gentlemen in the UCI in Bochum. Anyone else going to Bochum?

I´m getting hot ... lol
