Everybody Needs Somebody To Love
(Bert Berns / Solomon Burke / Jerry Wexler)

RCA Studios, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, US, November 2, 1964

Mick Jagger - lead vocals, backing vocals, tambourine
Keith Richards - electric guitar, backing vocals
Charlie Watts - drums
Bill Wyman - bass
Brian Jones - electric guitar
Ian Stewart - piano

I'm so glad to be here tonight and I'm so glad to be home
And I believe I've got a message for every woman and every man here tonight
That ever needed somebody to love, someone to stay with them all the time
When they're up and when they're down
You know, sometimes you get what you want
And then you go and lose what you have
And I believe every woman and every man here tonight listen to my song
And it save the whole world, listen to me

Everybody wants somebody, everybody wants somebody to love
Someone to love, someone to kiss, sometime to miss, now
Someone to squeeze, someone to please, and I need you, you, you
I need you, you, you, I need you, you, you, I need you, you, you
Oh, sometimes I feel like, I feel a little sad inside
My baby mistreats me and I kinda get a little, little mad
I need you, you, you, to see me through, babe
When the sun go down, ain't nobody else around
That's when I need you baby, that's when I say I love you, that's when I say I love you
Let me hear you say yeah, let me hear you say yeah
Let me hear you say yeah, let me hear you say yeah
I need you, you, you, you, somebody to see me through, baby
I need you, you, you, I need you, you, you, I need you, you, you
When the sun go down, ain't nobody else around
That's when I'm all by myself, that's when I need your lovin', darlin'
That's when I need you so bad, you're the one I really need bad
I need you to see me through, baby, in the morning time too
When the sun go down, ain't nobody else around, I need your lovin' so bad
Everybody needs somebody to love
I'm not afraid to be by myself but I just need to be somebody to love

All the time…
Let me hear you say yeah…
I need you, you, you…
Everybody needs somebody…

Everybody Needs Somebody To Love / Pain In My Heart
(Bert Russell / Solomon Burke / Jerry Wexler) / (Allen Toussaint)

Palace Theatre, Manchester, UK, March 7, 1965

Mick Jagger - vocals
Keith Richards - electric guitar
Charlie Watts - drums
Bill Wyman - bass

Everybody needs somebody
Everybody loves somebody
Everybody needs somebody
Everybody loves somebody, yes
And I need you, you, you
I need you, you, you
I need you, you, you
I need you, you, you

Pain in my heart, treatin' me poor
Where can my baby be, Lord, no one knows

Pain in my heart, won't let me sleep
I wake up restless nights in misery, Lord, yes I do

Lord, and one day, my days are pretty rough
Won't you come back, come back, come back, baby, Lord, please help me

Pain in my heart, treatin' me poor
Where can my baby be, Lord, where can she be

Won't somebody stop this pain in my heart

Lord, and one day, my days are pretty tough
Won't you love me, love me, love me, baby, somebody tell me

Pain in my heart, pain in my heart
It's killin' me darlin’, pain in my heart
Stop this pain, pain in my heart
Oh my, my, my, my, my, my…

The studio version is absoutely one of their best recordings from 1963-64, imo.
Great irresistable rhythm, with superb "twin" guitars from Keith and Brian!
Mick ain´t bad, either...

Yes, indeed. but...which studio version do you mean?
the 3:01 min or 5:08 version? ...and which was the early one?

v 5:08 does it for me.

open-g:

Yes, the long one it is!
The shorter take is an earlier (run-through) version that´s not nearly as good.

Great song, always loved the mono versions but was stunned when I first heard the stereo version on the flip side of Street Fighting Man back in '71

The long one is way better than the short one.
Pure magic!

Hadn't ever seen that before. Had never seen Wyman singing harmony(although I really couldn't hear him). Was that common at the time?

>> Was that common at the time? <<

pretty common, yeah. the 1967 tour was the last time he sang backup on stage -
it seems like after he got his big LV turn on In Another Land it spoiled him for the backup role cool smiley

I actually think the Blues Brother's version of this song is the best.

Great cover of a classic song. This is the early Stones showing the world that they can work their own unique magic on others' songs. Thanks for posting that video, HM, I'd never seen that.

Does anyone have the stereo version of this song? I heard it a while ago. It sounds great.
