you can get the album that Keith's redition is on directly from Scotty Moore's site: [www.scottymoore.net]
don't miss the "making of" video clips linked to from that page ... Scotty's whole site is well worth rooting around on

Thanks for the ad photo. That is one long two-door.

Those old Elvis records with THAT band are wonderful.

aahhh...today still thinking about dear Levon Helm. I will miss him.

Deuce & A Quarter is such a joyful song -- wonderful duet between Levon & Keith. This YouTube slide show is filled with photos sweet & rare -- we're super lucky to see 'em!

Here's what Keith says about this session in LIFE:

"The great sessions at Levon Helm's house in Woodstock, New York, in 1996 to play on All the King's Men, with Scotty Moore,
Elvis' guitar player, and DJ Fontaine, his drummer on the early Sun recordings. This was serious stuff. The Rolling Stones are
one thing, but to hold your own with guys that turned you on is another. These cats are not necessarily very forgiving of
other musicians. They expect the best and they're going to have to get it--you really can't go in there and flake. You have to
be on your mark. I love that."

The guy who uploaded the song says:

"Recorded at Levon Helm's home in Woodstock, NY July 5-7, 1996 with Scotty Moore and D. J. Fontana joined
by Garth Hudson, Levon, Rick Danko of The Band and many friends and family, (too many). Keith brought along his dad, Bert,
so he could meet the man who made his son want to play the guitar - Scotty Moore. Stan Lynch, drummer of Tom Petty & the
Heartbreakers, was on hand to keep the peace, except with Garth, and for producing the music. Someday the film will be
completed of the making of the great, Grammy-nominated CD All the King's Men but for now I have the music and can show these
stills which were shot for promotional use - so I am using them for promotional use only!

"When I was putting the record together I couldn't? get Keith or Levon to come up with any ideas for an unrecorded song, so I
called Kevin and Gwil Owen. they had written a couple of great songs for Sonny Burgess' Rounder Record so I asked them if they
had a song that kinda mixed Exile On Main Street with Music From Big Pink. They said they didn't but they would write one! This
is the great song they came up with and Keith, Levon and Scotty made it their own.

"Keith's dad is the short elderly guy with the Scottish hat and moustache. He stayed up all night with us and enjoyed every
minute. Burt also kept in touch with some of the people he met at the session. I was lucky enough to be his after-show babysitter
on the Bridges To Babylon. I swear this is true - when Burt was at the shows he and Keith played scrabble every night until it
was time for bed at around 3:00 AM. I consider myself blessed to know both of them."

Richards looked sooo fit and in shape back then, his playing was great but it could not go on like this forever.

Really cool story about Keith and his Dad playing scrabble every night while together on tour.

I've been aware of this song and always loved it. Especially for Keith's fantastic singing. Just soulful and perfect. I always assumed this was just a remake of an older song. I had no idea it was written for this album. It comes off as a classic IMO. I now have a whole new appreciation for it.

There's a great story in one of the Stones books regarding Scotty Moore stating prior to Keith's arrival for the session that he was gonna "drink that muthafucka under the table table tonight - just you wait and see" - or somthing to that nature. He said it playfully. Then the story goes Keith out lasted him. No doubt with the help of a bunch of blow of course smiling smiley

I love the pics from these sessions as you can instantly tell from Keith's smiles that he was humbled to be in Scotty's presence and just all around humbled...

And in regard to his appearance then, I always felt Keith looked his best (out of the Vegas era) in that 96-99 period when he let his hair grey....

HAHAH...I thought it was an obscure - super rare - Chuck Berry song, - B-side of a single or something like that, - hah..it´s not ? This is the orginal version, - Whoah, I didn't know that. Cool song.

LYRICS:

Buy a bottle get to feeling good
World's lookin' like you think it should
Happy hour, Honey everyone's your friend
Closing time shut her down again
Up in the morning and your facing town
Walk the same streets up and down.
A fire burning in your worn out shoes
Every day you got something to prove.

A curb feelers and fender skirts
Scrub the chrome 'till your elbow hurts
A pinstripes and cherry packs
Grass stains on your second hand slacks.

Keep on bettin' think you gonna win
You can dress it up and try to pretend
a car's a car and that's a fact
A deuce and a quarter aint no cadillac.

Uncle Johnny had a country act
His headache is a heart attack
Honey bring me down a couple more pills
Call the lawyer up and change my will.
Ham sandwich and a glass of tea
Lunch is cheap but never free
Shaking hands and scratching backs
Grease stains on my second hand slacks

Keep on bettin think you're gonna win
You can dress it up and try to pretend
A car's a car and thats a fact
A deuce and a quarter ain't a cadillac.

I got a date
I gotta dress with care
Wash the gray right outta my hair.
I clean the car and when I'm through
I wax it up till it looks brand new.

A curb feelers and a fender skirt
Scrub the chrome 'till your elbows hurt.
Pinstripes and cherry packs
Grass stains on your second hand slacks.

Keep on bettin' think your gonna win
You can dress it up and try to pretend.
A car's a car, and that's a fact
but a Deuce and a quarter aint no cadillac.

A car's a car, and that's a fact
but a Deuce and a quarter aint no cadillac.

I thought the 2nd verse started:

Uncle John the hypochondriac thinks a headache is a heart attack

Apparently a documentary was/is in the making of that session!

Can you imagine being able to see what went on live? I hope that documentary gets made.

The stills in that slideshow are just amazing. [photographer: Jim Herrington]

One of the comments on youTube sums up my reaction: "OH MY GOD keith and levon singing on the same song.... I AM GOING TO EXPLODE?"!

to be really finetuneish about it, i believe it's "Uncle Johnny Hypochondriac" -
like it's his second name. no "the"

and as for documentaries: there used to be some footage from the All the King's Men session
on Scotty Moore's website - [www.scottymoore.net] - which is well worth rooting around on fo a variety of reasons. have fun!

I agree, or like: "Uncle Johnny (hypochondriac)"

I had poked around Scotty's website but didn't see any video.

Incidentally, I'm in touch with the documentary maker about possibly helping them out getting the documentary about this session finished.

The early CD gate-fold edition of All The King's Men came
with a 4 track CD-Rom of interviews and band working in studio......

From memory the same footage was available on the Scotty Moore site ...
