*The Rolling Stones - rare January 1967 footage*
Posted by: His Majesty ()

Just received a dvd from forum member Palace Revolution 2000(Many thanks!!!) featuring rare footage from Italian TV of the group backstage at the London Palladium and then at Brian's Courtfield Road flat where we hear Brian play parts of Ruby Tuesday on piano.

There's other footage at them at work in Olympic, Albert Hall amongst other stuff which has been seen elsewhere.

Very cool footage so it is, will need some time to get it from the DVD and on to youtube or whatever. In the meantime here's some screen grabs from the footage.

Backstage London Palladium

No.1 Courtfield Road

That's Michael Cooper on the left beside Mick

Michael took a number of photos this day too, some of which appear in the Early Stones - Terry Southern/Michael Cooper book.

Amazing - I would presume that it may have been shot by their friend Peter Whitehead. I don't think Brian would have invited any old news team back to his flat.

Possibly, this would explain why some of his footage is included as part of the Italian show, but Brian mentioned in an early 1967 interview that an Italian film crew was in his flat.

Wow, that's rare, isn't it? There's not many pics available taken at any of Jones's houses, aren't there?

A few years ago i saw at a person's place some maps of collected Stones articles from Dutch pop magazines stretching from end of 1964 to....the last article was with pictures about the Rock & Roll Circus, she told me she lost her interrest in the Stones after they had released Beggars Banquet. Anyway there was a reportage from 1965 or beginning 1966 in (i think it was) de Muziek Express called Thuis bij de Rolling Stones, where in every edition was a photo reportage at one of the members houses (you saw for example Mick Jagger standing in the dooropening of his house in London, and than you saw him throughout his house) also Brian Jones in his house was featured in that series. this particulair woman has moved and so i lost contact but i am sure some older Dutch Stonesfans may have these magazines/pictures somewhere stacked on their attic.

Wow, truly exciting stuff. I've seen a minute or so of footage backstage at the Palladium but never anything from Brian's pad. How long is the footage His Majesty?

This article will probably have featured Brian in his Chelsea Mews home, he lived there prior to Courtfield Road which he moved in to Autumn 1966.

The Mews house is still there to this day, but sadly the building where Brian lived in Courtfield Road was demolished in 1972 or so.

1967 - 2009

Altogether the Italian TV part is about 10 minutes or so.

and then at Brian's Courtfield Road flat where we hear Brian play parts of Ruby Tuesday on piano.

So could it be him on the official release?

I would say this is strong proof that Brian plays piano on the official release of Ruby Tuesday. I went from being very doubtful, to 99% sure it's him after seeing this. smiling smiley

Here it is!

[rapidshare.com]

I don't have an account so only 10 people can download it before the link expires. Hopefully others with an account can create a more permanent download link!?

I put it on my photobucket as well so more folks can watch it straight away. Not sure if the photobucket link has all of it, perhaps they have a limit, it should be 13 minutes long.

beautiful and fascinating - thank you HM ~ thank you PR2000 ~ thank you Rolling Stones :E
(i don't think those Ruby Tuesday and LSTNT promos necessarily mean Peter Whitehead was the one who did the filming at Brian's flat;
those promos weren't exclusive to this Italian program - they're just real hard to find in decent quality)

what a year 1967 was
