From today's Billboard magazine:

Interesting.

Screw it, they can sell it exclusively through Popeye's Fried Chicken for all I care, as long as it's good.

I kind of doubt it will happen though.

No 2010 tour most likely means no 2010 album. I hate Walmart, but their marketing and Jack White would deliver a #1 album for the Stones.

Dear Rolling Stones:

Please.

Please.

Please.

Please don't make me go to WalMart.

WalMart sucks the soul right out of your body. I will not enter that place even for a new Rolling Stones album.

I think it's a big hypermarket chain. And what's so bad about it, if I may be so free...?

Walmart is a hypermarket which terrorizes its employees in a 1984/Brave New World style. I hope that this is just another speculation.

Thanks, I ask more because... well, little I know that is..

So the point of releasing it "Walmart-exclusive" - like BLACK ICE - is that the album is better reachable for bigger audiences than in 'normal' record stores (when the people do their normal daily shopping, they may just pick up a latest rock and roll album by some well-known name...), or do I get the picture right?

Namely, the article seem to indicate that AC/DC did sell that well because the record was "Walmart-exclusive". I have doubts about that.

Just trying to make sense out of this, that's all...

This rumour sounds unlikely to me, the Stones are no big recordsellers anymore, nothing wrong with that, but why should somebody who knows little about the band go to walmart and say :"Oho, a new Stones album"?

It may not be long before Walmart is the only "bricks and mortar" store (as opposed to shopping online) that still sells CDs. Last time I was in Best Buy, it seemed as if the CD racks occupied only HALF as much floor space as they did one year ago.

Well the only reason to buy records at Wal-Mart is because they tend to price them as a loss-leader. For example, one can get the AC/DC remastered back catalogue for prices between $7.99 to $9.99 with the odd higher number for who knows what reason. But way lower than anywhere else. And sometimes below $7.99 even.

So, like they do with their banana prices, Wal-Mart is not making any money on CDs.

WAL-MART has "greeters" at the doorway as you walk in....they are very attractive, reminds me of some groupies in the dressing room after 20 beers in the old dayssmileys with beergrinning smiley

I've managed to miss the 'greeters' and have blown by them when they want to see my receipt. Granted, I've only been to Wal-Mart maybe 10 times in my life, usually, ha ha, to buy AC/DC records (and their DVDs are cheap too).

The Stones will rerelease Exile, their most popular and one of their best albums. They will most probably not release a new album in 2010, a few month after Exile. Charlie Watts obviously is free to play in Vienna in march, there seem to be no recording plans.

That's right, Doxa! I'll be beating down the door to buy some cheap jeans from China, a couple of guns, a few nuked hot dogs from the "refreshment" area, and the brand new Stones album.

When the AD/DC album came out you saw it everywhere at any given Walmart, plus tshirts etc. So tons of people bought it because they saw it right in front of their face, most probably had no idea there was a new AC/DC album out or would go looking for it in a record store (which barely exist anymore). I'd prefer they did it at Target like Pearl Jam did.

I ran my own record store for 6 years, and Wal-Mart was a big part of what helped put us out of business, along w/Best Buy and a lousy Bush-era economy. That said, if the Stones did this, I'd probably just download the sucker of a pirate site (hopes the RIAA isn't reading this).

Who is Jack White ?

Okay, I know he is said to be a really good rock guitarist and had a band with his older sister. But, what can he really bring to the table working with ROlling Stones ? A band must have really stong material that people want to buy. The name Jack White will not help unless the project is really kick ass. He's a young kid and the movie "It Might Get Loud" was pretty good, but I could not tell you what songs he's known for. He does not have a legacy that people are following to the point where it makes a dent in the record labels calculator.
