I saw the Black Crowes perform July 4th at SUMMERFEST music fest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA. Fantastic show by a group that remembers how to play Rock and Roll.The two guitarists (Rich Robinson and ?) showed a great understanding of "the ancient art of weaving" as they traded licks throughout the evening. The encore song was Can't You Hear Me Knocking, one of my favorite Stones songs and one that I lobbied to have back in their setlist this tour. I was thrilled beyond belief and no longer felt out of place with my !981 Stones Tour t-shirt.It has the stars and stripes on the tongue ande got many comments from others at the show. The Crowes version was right on (maybe not vocally) and the jam part at the end went on and on with supperb guitar solos. I remember just saying "wow" as the wrapped up the song.

July 5th I went back and saw B.B. KING and going back on the 7th to see alt./country bands OLD 97s and Son Volt. Summerfest is a great festaval with a good mix of music styles. This was their 40th year and they do things right, There are at least six permenant stages playing music from noon to midnight.Check out their website www.summerfest.com

I wish I could see this band in concert.I have got only one of their albums so far(Southern Harmony...).I heard a lot of people claim that The Crowes gigs are an incredible experience.

I saw the Crows open for the Stones at Wembly in 95 - they hardly put forth an effort. I couldn't believe it. I'm sure that was a bad night. I'm certain they're better than that.

I've been trying to find a boot of this. Dying to hear it.

Cool....they did Happy several years ago for a encore....CYHMK sounds better!!!

Damn,I just found out that they are playing tomorrow night in San Francisco. But I can't find tickets for it anywhere.

How about buying tickets outside of the stadium after the show has started ? I hear that's the best way to do it....and ever pay more than a third of the real price.

I have the Instant Live recording of "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", musically it's really amazing, but the BEST Stones cover they did IMO is "Lovin' Cup" Fillmore 2005 (with horns section), a shame it wasn't included in the "Freak'n Roll" DVD.
I'm really happy to hear the SummerFest show was a great one, it was reported the show before wasn't.

Check the new Chris/Rich Robinson "Brothers Of A Feather/Live At The Roxy" released this week, these acoustic performances of last year are one the best things they did.

in my humble opinion, the Crowes out do the Stones on the latters own songs!

i've heard many, many different Stones covers by the Crowes and they play them with a real spirit - the same spirit the Stones did in late 60's - early 70's era

a million miles away from how they sound today

sad but very true

They have album out of just covers, they cover several Stones ongs, lots of material from EOMS. They are a guitar band that rocks and rolls!

I saw the Crowes a couple of times on the Brotherly Love tour with Oasis back in '01 and I've gotta say... I was disappointed. They certainly had the chops, and I generally like Chris Robinson's shtick, but it bored me to death. They could jam and groove, but the songs themselves just seemed to be lacking - no real memorable riffs or hooks. And a ten minute jam on a mediocre riff gets old after a while.

Then you've got the best one ;-)

As for their concerts they can both be extremely rock'n'roll ....but also very "hippie" with long outdrawn solos and much shaking of hair..... (this is, however, a few years back - maybe they have tightened up since)..all in the same concert....

But I would not call it a bad concert...just too losely paced ;-)

The only "problem" with the crowes is that they truly do lots of genuine improvisation.

Sometimes (most of the times) it works, sometimes not.

But it's only rock and roll!

...........no argument just incredulous.......how can you compare???...the Crows are in their prime(40's), while the Stones in their 60's have endured an incredible amount of personal abuses.........I'd take the Stones of 20 years ago against anybody anywhere anytime.........
