The Japanese Zemaitis guitars as played by the Stones where not Greco guitars but handmade Custom Shop Zemaitis guitars. Greco is the cheaper, production line series of Zemaitis branded guitars.

I have the metal top- it is unbelievable. No comparison. Very much a rock and roll guitar, would suck for jazz or rod Stewart rock but perfect for hard driven dirty blues rock. Best guitar I have ever owned. All of the gz's I have played are great. My Les Paul, tele, or even my DA are not in it's neighborhood.

Go Dawgs!

All info here: [www.zemaitis-guitars.com]

The price is a bit difficult as it really depends on where you buy them. Metal front guitars are in the $6500 range in the US, 7000 euro range in Europe and 4500 euro range in Japan. Greco Zemaitis guitars are anywhere from from $1500 to $3500. Prices can vary drastically from one shop to another.

In my personal opinion Zemaitis guitars are totally overpriced. They are superbly made with top quality wood and components, but so are custom shop Fender guitars and these are half the price of a Zemaitis. Soundwise they are great rock guitars, but miss the real quality of a CS shop Les Paul. You simply pay a lot for the name and image of Zemaitis.

thanks Toru-A - the details on "Ronnie's new one" are quite good-lookin!
i don't get what the appeal of that awkward shape is, but ...
well, as long as it does what Ronnie wants it to do!

The shape of it isn't uncommon for a Zemaitis guitar.

i know, Phil Good. like Chuck Berry i have tried and failed[obscure Stones quote #738]
to comprehend the appeal of it, but i gather it does hold appeal for some people.

the LP-esque shape of Keith's Pirate Zemaitis looks good to me. doublecut Juniors too

J. Geils' 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard is currently for sale on EBay (through Boston, MA music store) with a buy it now price of $250,000.00. Not sure what the bidding is at or what it would cost you if you were to walk in to the store.

I'd love to have the guitar become a part of my family but with that kind of price I'm going to have to pass. Gotta make sure I've got cash on hand to buy a five-string Tele from a certain Mr. Richards when he decides he doesn't need it any more.

Peace,
Mr DJA

spinning smiley sticking its tongue out Thanks for posting this. I really want one.

New topic: Stones have always had the best looking guitars. From Brians Vox and Gold top to Keiths brilliant Custom 72, Studio Gibson, Caster and pirate Zematis and Ronnie's silver Zematis.

59 Les Paul or 59 Martin D-45.

Most expensive guitar is Eric Claptons original strat "Blackie" sold for $959,500 at Christie´s in 2004 and bought by Guitar Center.

The Z's Greco make are awesome. I now have a disc front. Simply awesome. I just wish that Grecian had put the boost circuit like the original Z's.

No, there where more expensive guitars. A Bob Marley guitar was sold for 1.2 mil, Hendrix's Woodstock Strat was bought for 2 million by Paul Allan, and the most expensive one was a guitar auctioned for the Tsunami vicitims for 2.7 million dollar.

Alright, but if we skip celebrity owned guitars and those sold for charity the most expensive ones would be 59 les Paul or a 59 D-45.
