I like to talk up Bob Marley & The Wailers' "Survival." I think it is a beautiful, mature work by an artist comfortable with who he is, what he is doing and how he is doing it.

So true. I have every single CD. Unfortunately Soul Jazz stopped this series a few years ago.

Thanks humanriff77. Not that many people know Rasta Ambassador which I think verges on almost psychedelic reggae and many people dismiss Bunny Wailer for his Wailers connection, citing anything connected to Bob Marley too commercial. Most of these albums I'd put in the roots reggae spectrum. I think reggae kinda lost direction in the early 80s.

The comp of Niney cuts - Roots With Quality also released this year on the VP label is worth a mention imo
Doubles some of the stuff on other Niney comps like the mandatory Blood & Fire, Romeo's Rasta Band Wagon etc
Still some great finds among those more wellknown Niney cuts

Silver Dagger, i agree most of the reggae i like is from mid eighties and before, although a few good songs appear now and again (Fantan Mojah and Mavado of recent artists come to mind), the Jamaicans are amazingly creative people. I dont like much of the stuff mixing Hip Hop and R&B with reggae.

Rootsman all your list I love too, so many amazing records from this tiny island.

and one more -

Abyssinians "Satta Massagana" smiling smiley

Yeah. humanriff77, really odd one that. The style is kind of dub toasting but it's pretty weird in places. Fantastic use of echo. U Roy unfortunately is one of those guys that never gets mentioned along the all time great reggae artists.

Little Roy - Tafari Earth Uprising
Ras Michael - Dadawah Peace and Love (this is psychedelic...)
