actual quote? "We're not old men...we not concerned with your petty morals"

hi -- I've been thinking (appropos of my work developing digital, interactive, and social media experiences for web) about the shifting sands of time, and how societal rules and roles etc shifted dramatically in the 60s-70s. And how they are again radically shifting again. For better and/or for worse.

Last night sprang to mind the phrase "pretty morals" of which Keith spoke against in his Redlands trial, when the barrister invoked the imagine of (gasp!!!) a young woman, naked, and draped in a fur rug. I've always loved the sense of hauteur and righteousness with which Keith spoke.

He was spot-on in articulating the schism between generations. The societal shifts at that time, as restrictive mores were dumped in favor of a more open, freer, less orderly and structured society ("do your own thing," "if it feels good, do it," "tell it like it is," "power to the people," etc)

In the next year I'll be speaking on how major structural societal/cultural shifts drive and affect the "virtual" online world. SO -- seeking the actual quote because the phrase and Keith will be the central organizing principle.

Does you know exactly what was said by Keith?

I've seen it thus:

"We are not old men, we are not worried about petty morals."
"We are not old men, and we're not worried about petty morals"
"We are young men. We are not concerned with your petty morals."
"We're young men. "We don't care about your petty morals."

thanks!

I don't think it's any of the four you have listed. I believe it's "We are not old men.We are not concerned with your petty morals."

The first part is definitely "not old men" and I'm certain the word "concerned" is in there as well.

In 1967 in court after the drug bust, Keith told the prosecution, "We are not old men, and we’re not worried about petty morals."

Regardless of how it was said, the real issue is the fact that the barrister probably wasn't above getting the occasional blow job under the bench from a 12 year old boy during the trial. Those English judges have always been a bunch of deviant poofters, no morally better than the Stones or anyone else.

What would he say now? "We are old men. We are concerned with petty morals and our retirement plans".

I do too.

Thanks for the responses!

btw...I wasn't being exhaustive with the 4 versions I posted above. Just pointing out the main points of variation:

- old mean vs. young men

- worried about vs. concerned with your

------------

If I wanna be precise I'll get my hands on the original, primary source. But for giving a talk on shifting social structures, I'll probably say Keith said something along the lines of "We are not old men. We are not concerned with your petty morals."

Thanks again smiling smiley

in his Keith bio Stanley Booth has it as "We are not old men. We don't have these petty morals."

I agree it's core to the outlaw image!

SwayStones...what do you win? well...if you ever visit America you have a kickass place to stay and I'll buy you a beverage of your choice. Rockman too. And anyone else who got it "right." I found this transcript, which is slightly different - and that's why I'm still curious about the original primary source...
