Don’t Wanna Go Home
(Mick Jagger / Keith Richards)

La Fourchette, Pocé sur Cisse, France & St. Vincent, West Indies,
June - September 2004, La Fourchette, Pocé sur Cisse, France,
November - December 2004, March 7 - 9 & March 14 - June 2005 and
Ocean Way Recording Studios, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, US,
June 6 - 28, 2005

Mick Jagger - lead vocals, backing vocals, electric guitar, percussion
Keith Richards - electric guitar, backing vocals
Charlie Watts - drums
Ron Wood - electric guitar
Darryl Jones - bass

Every Thursday night I'm hanging in this balcony
Watching all the bodies heaving on the floor
And though my ears are ringing, the DJ keeps on spinning
Who's going to be the one to kick me right out the door

We don't wanna go home, we don't wanna go home, we don't wanna go home

I don't want to read a book, I don't want to watch TV
All this violent chatter's just got me bored
And though my feet got blisters, I want to dance with your sister
Though my back is aching and all my limbs are sore

We don't wanna go home, we don't wanna go home, we don't wanna go home

We don't wanna go home, never wanna be alone, we don't wanna go home

Keep the music blasting, keep the lights turned way down low
It's hard to look your best around half past five, yeah
Tell those other roues they better go and grab their toupees
They better feel themselves lucky if they ever get out alive

We don't wanna go home, we don't wanna go home, we don't wanna go home

We don't wanna go home, we just wanna get stoned, we don't wanna go home

We don't wanna go home, we don't wanna go home, we don't wanna go home

Produced by Don Was & The Glimmer Twins

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “A Bigger Bang - Special Edition” CD + DVD
(Virgin Records CDVX 3012) UK, November 18, 2005

smile: that line isn't really about toothpaste.
it's "Tell those other roués they better grab their toupées"

(roué. n. debauched man; lecher; toupée. n. hairpeice or partial wig, especially for men.)

well, could be a show closer BUT it sounds like a stadiumhairmetalrocker from the eighties, with a huge chorus

Uninsired rocker. A good B-side. Nothing more.

Pretty good, actually!

It could have made A BIGGER BANG, but then again; the album is full of single B-side caliber songs already... does nothing to me, personally. Would be a surprise if they would still remember making it...

it may be nothing special, but for me it is a nice song with funny lyrics! but i think under the radar was the better song of the 2 songs not included on ABB...i am of the opinion that both of them should have made it on ABB....

if it had been on the album 99.97% of all journalists would've used the title phrase to comment on the Stones' tenacity -
which wouldn't be anywhere near as witty as the Stones themselves using Oh No Not You Again to announce the album & tour :E

it's beautiful to hear Keith's singing voice though - there's nowhere near enough of that on the album

This is one of the most fun songs from the ABB sessions. It would have been a perfect album closer. And it would have brought a very welcome refreshing touch to the album, too, with its flurry of humour since most of the album's lyrics are rather serious. It would make a great concert finale, too.

Stil, I always thought the lyrics were "We don't wanna go home / we just wanna get Stoned".

The b-sides "We Don't Wanna Go Home" and "Under the Radar" (huh!) are sorely missed on the 2009 "A Bigger Bang" reissue by Universal Records.

A great, catchy riff and beat to it. I like it very much.

next to SSMC, woulda been the best track on the album...and agree with terry - helluva way to close a show. even the few times the stones find the right formula these days, they managed to mangle the opportunities....

puh, that´s a really really bad one!

There's definitely a "we just wanna get stoned" in the last chorus - I like both of the ABB cast-offs, but I can see why this one wasn't included: it's a bit too honest about finding it harder to keep up the pace these days. Personally I think that's a point in its favour, but I can see that Mick would think otherwise.

Anyway, at least they didn't ditch it completely, and the line about the roues and their toupees is classic Jagger - who else would write a line like that? (ruins and toothpaste indeed! somebody needs to invest in a hearing aid)

and/or in one of those handy Build Your Vocabulary kits -
mine came with a very cool "Jazz Up Your Vocab with Furrin Terms" supplement :E

Horrible lyrics. Mick writes about hanging out at a discotheque? How posh.

Musically its a bit reminiscent of "Driving Too Fast." Lyrically, its another Thursday night clubbing song to sit with "Rain Fall Down" and "Dance, Little Sister."

A fun song - kind of in the "Where the Boys Go" style, to my senses. Not a masterpiece of course, but a good little rocker and I'd have rather had it on the record in place of 'Driving Too Fast' or 'Dangerous Beauty', both of which I kind of consider to be generic, near-cock rock.

well-stated, except for the part that suggests where the boys go ain't a masterpiece...

Just been listening to this: I think the line about "violent chatter" is actually "all this Botticelli's just got me bored" - Mick preferring a disco to an art gallery for amusement sounds about right...

Yes, I can understand why they kept this one off ABB. It just doesn't work, and it wouldn't have added anything of value to the album. It's too similar to ONNYA, but the chorus here is even more annoying.

Should have been on ABB with radar.
