What a fantastic post this is, especially when listening to that new Roundhouse tape
Mathijs

"New" Roundhouse tape? How is this different from the existing version?

Yeah, I'd really like to know about that as well!
And that 2nd picture (from the 70 Paris gig) is a great find!

It's NOT a new tape. No need to get excited. It's CD2 of VGP-030, "The Lost Marquee Tapes," released ca. 1996. VGP used the TMOQ LP, which remains the only source for this recording, and drastically processed it. It sounds way different, and probably better.

I still think the version of Prodigal Son which is on the Vinyl Gang release and which wasn't on the original lp is from a different show, and not the Roundhouse, as they claim it to be. Certainly sounds like it is, and if VGP simply sourced the lp, where did they come up with that one extra song ?

There are two different pressings of the LP: the first without Prodigal Son, the second with it. The second is called the "New Edition," and notes "more music and improved sound." Unfortunately I disagree about "improved sound," as it's the same to me as the first version.

That's interesting, didn't know that. Listening to Prodigal Son again right now (from the VGP release), it sounds like at least a different source to me-clearer, more crowd noise near the taper than the old, first pressing of the lp but maybe I need to go back and listen to the vinyl again.

What I notice is that in 71 e.g they considered Wyman just as photo worthy as other Stones. And this is good.

Nearly all the missing pictures were provided by Honestman, whose ImageShack account was taken down when he left the board, so the pictures are sadly no longer available, unless anyone who downloaded them at the time can re-post.

Paris 1970

by Ethan Russel - from David Dalton's book of 1971

This picture above has been discussed numerous times, not because it's a fantastic shot (The ones who have followed the thread a while ago knows what I'm talkin' about winking smiley )
I've just find another one which came from a bootleg picture-disc, I've edited the pic >grinning smiley<
And for those who missed the story , this shot is from one of the Paris Shows of 1970.

Hey, good edit you made - almost look like a real sized picture now
But I noticed this picture disc bootleg before.....here's a scan I uploaded to IORR 4-5 years ago:

Not as nicely edited as yours!

It looks like that there was quite intensive interaction between the band and the audience in Paris 1970... and seeminingly the room was rather warm...spinning smiley sticking its tongue outthumbs up

Honestman those are stunning photos. Thanks so much for posting...awesome.

The Newcastle set list supposedly they did CYHMK:

In Newcastle the set was:
"Jumpin' Jack Flash"
"Live With Me"
"Dead Flowers"
"Stray Cat Blues"
"Love In Vain"
"Prodigal Son"
"Midnight Rambler"
"Bitch"
"Can't You Hear Me Knockin'"
"Wild Horses"
"Honky Tonk Women"
"Satisfaction"
"Little Queenie"
"Brown Sugar"
"Street Fighting Man"
Encore:
"Sympathy For The Devil"
"Let It Rock"

Sadly the 1970 tour is my hole in my collection with very few boots from it.

Thanx!
Another thing that was great was that 69/70 were the last tours without barriers. Fans could lean and sometimes jump on stage. I'm not really shure about 71 England.
But from 72/73 on there were those bloody barriers.

CousinC, you've made a great point!

Those BARRIERS. Too bad they become necessary.
I have such wonderful memories of various performances by Stones and others when there were NO barriers and we all felt so CONNECTED.
