Really really really doubt it's Bridges. I think Voodoo outsold that one both in the states and worldwide. I am guess Tattoo You or Forty Licks. I think it's georgelicks who always has the current billboard numbers - maybe he knows?

It's either Sticky Fingers, Hot Rocks, Some Girls, or Tattoo You

It surely has to be one of the above four!

I'm amazed that Hot Rocks is the No 1 seller. It was not officially released in the UK until, ooh the 80s I believe - perhaps not even until the CD release in about 91.

I really would have thought that Rolled Gold or another TV advertised album or even Sticky Fingers would have shipped more copies.

Georgelicks probaly knows the answer.

Think Goats Head Soup did well too because of Angie

Its Hot Rocks - which was basically a US release.

Rolled Gold was a UK release, not issued in the US until a couple of years ago.

Some Girls and then Tattoo You are the biggest selling studio releases.

Keep in mind for eons those double albums were counted as 2 units sold. It wasn't until recently that they started counting them as 1 unit.

Hot Rocks outsold Rolled Gold for the simple reason that there are more Americans than Englishmen.

What amazes me is the great numbers for JUMP BACK. Seemingly, the bulk of it comes from 2004 US release. But then again, The Stones have toured quite a lot behind greatest hits packages...grinning smiley

Some observations:
* Since BEGGARS BANQUET all the new studio albums had made the three million mark.
* only three albums in the sixties made it (AFTERMATH, BEGGARS, LET IT BLEED). Just compare that to the Beatles statistics...

OK so there are more people in the US and a lot in the UK. But why are the numbers so low for the UK and Euro countries? Certainly there are more people than those numbers, per album, that, over time, have bought the Stones albums. For example, only UK: 600,000? How big is London? That's just nuts. Is the UK stingy when it comes to buying records?

No wonder they start their tours in the US. It's the only country in the world that buys more than 700,000 copies for something (yeah, I know, that's not accurate but you get the point, it's just a random amount).

Pretty amazingly low numbers for TGR'N'RBITW.

More surprising is the fact Sticky Fingers is sixth.

Understandable is ranking of EOMS.

It was pointed out to Paul Simon, during a 1972 Rolling Stone interview, that the WORST selling Simon & Garfunkel album (Wednesday Morning 3 AM) had outsold every Rolling Stones album except Sticky Fingers. "Forgive me my arrogance", said Simon, "but I've never even considered that the Rolling Stones were in my league".

I think that's what he said. He said something like that. As if record sales were eveything. You'd think a guy like that would know better.
