No Charlie, no Stones. I think it's best to draw a line under the whole shebang now.

I'm sad if Charlie is really quitting but I can also respect his decision.
He's certainly gone out on tour when he really didn't want to.
What more do the Stones have to gain by touring on a large scale anymore?

You know, the more I think about it, the more I respect Charlie for
saying enough is enough.

I just hope Mick and Keith have enough sense to not go out as the Stones.

Thanks for all the memories Charlie !!

Great Watts interview in 3 parts (except for the interviewer), part 2 is particularly interesting regarding the prospect of leaving the Stones in the context of Wyman's leaving and being a member of a band.

On the internet nobody knows
you're Mick Jagger

i believe it. and i doubt there will be a big announcement, they will try to keep it almost secret.

Trust me, if they're touring next year and Mick is introducing the band and says "on drums - Charrrlie......Drayton", people will notice.

yes, but by then you have already payed for your ticket which is the goal.

So lets see.............next tour ;

Vocals: MJ closely shadowed by Blondie and Bernard
Guitars: Blondie and Pierre
Drums:Chalie Drayton
Bass: Daryll Jones
Keys: Chuck
Air guitars:Keith and Ronnie

is THAT the Stones ? I'm soooooooo depressed.

They should only tour if Charlie Stays,Keith's "senior" moments have subsided and Ron is clean. IMHO

Ah, but life is good-

Charlie Watts buys $1m mare at Pride of Poland sale

August 11, 2009

A dark dappled grey mare named Pinta has topped the Pride of Poland arabian sale, selling for $1,045,381 (€500,000 ($US707,000) to British arabian breeders Shirley and Charlie Watts.
Charlie Watts, drummer for the Rolling Stones, and his wife Shirley are regulars at the Pride of Poland sale. They own Halsdon Arabians in Devonshire.

Pinta, a four-year-old mare by Ekstern [Mongramm x Ernestyna] and out of Pilar [Fawor x Pipi], was bred by Janow Podlaski. She was 2007 Polish National Reserve Champion filly. She sold in foal to the Eukaliptis son Aslan.

From the highly respected "P" family, Pinta's third dam is the World and European champion Pilarka. Pinta's dam Pilar is a Polish national junior champion and the dam of four international champions, including Pieta, Pizarro, and Pinga.

Some 36 horses went under the hammer, and 28 were sold, bringing in a total of €2.3 million ($NZ4.8m; $US3.25m). Last year 29 of 27 horses sold, bringing in €2,994,000. The top priced in 2008 was Kwestura, who sold to the UAE for €1,125,000.

The sale was at the Janow Podlaski stud farm at the weekend.

"Half a million euro is really a good sum. This gives us money to safely operate for the next year and think ahead. It is also important that so many horses have been sold. This shows the market for Polish-bred Arabians is still strong," said Marek Trela, director of Janow Podlaski.

Topping the sale is nothing new for Charlie and Shirley Watts: in 1993 they went to $US100,000 to secure Palba, a Michalow-bred grey mare by Penitent from the Gwarny mare Pliszka. In 1998 they bought Emilda (Pamir x Emanacja/Eukaliptus) for $US200,000, also bred by Michalow. In 2000 they paid $US110,000 for Euza, a grey mare by Etogram x Eura (Fawor), and bred by Janow Podlaski. In 2001 they bought the mare Egna (Eukaliptus x Egzotyka [Probat]) for $US120,000. They paid €340,000 for Amra (Eukaliptus x Albigowa [Fawor]) last year, who was the second-highest priced lot, and €270,000 for the next highest priced, Andromeda (Eldon x Aneksja [Balon]).

I am a Frenchie ,as Mick affectionately called them in the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977 .

Well this was fun....Not....Although if you really wanted to be a stickler about it. The Stones spokesman said Charlie hasn't left the band. She didn't say he was going to tour with them. When push comes to shove,we'll see what really happens.

If Charlie quits one could say that it's the end of a nice and very long story !

I couln't believe the STONES touring without him, if they'll go with something like that, they had to change the name of the Band in " GLIMMER TWINS Only", it fits better and it don't make me laugh !

Waitin like you for an official comment from Charlie himself or Mick and Keith.
If no comments, there's still a little hope, but if it's true, it sounds like the end...

Well, a tour hasnt been announced yet nor is there any formal indication one is being planned so there's nothing to confirm/deny regarding that.

The only relevant thing worth talking about was whether he had quit or not. Fran has, as far as I'm concerned, nipped that story in the bud and put any doubts to rest.

And full credit to her for doing it so promptly.thumbs up

Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has not quit the legendary rock'n'roll band, his spokesman has told Uncut.co.uk this afternoon (September 2).

Claims made earlier today on Australian website undercover.com.au that Charlie Watts had quit The Rolling Stones were posted online at 10am (GMT), quoting an unnamed source in the band’s inner circle who said the drummer “will never record or tour with the band again.”

The story was subsequently picked up by a number of online news services before a statement was released to Uncut.co.uk at 5pm (GMT) by the band’s UK spokesperson.

The statement reads: “Contrary to a fabricated story that ran this morning on a small music web site in Australia, drummer Charlie Watts has not left The Rolling Stones.”

Charlie Watts joined the band in 1963.

The rumour comes a few days after the news that the police are planning to re-examine the death of the Stones’ former guitarist Brian Jones, who drowned in 1969.

Those who are going to Charlie's next gig, please give him a BIG cheer from all of us.

Charlie Watts not quitting Rolling Stones, despite rumors
by Leah Greenblatt
Categories: News, Rolling Stones
Charlie Watts, the dapper silver-haired drummer for the Rolling Stones, was reported today by Australia’s Undercover entertainment website to have left the band, just three years short of their 50th anniversary.

The band’s spokesperson, Fran Curtis, tells EW there is no truth to the rumors: “Contrary to a fabricated story that ran this morning,” he says, “Charlie Watts has not left The Rolling Stones.’’
