Im waiting for another reply from the reporter re his 'source'

What about this MJ and KR recent fight ? and Keith to be out of basement for a pretended recording session ? but where since Charlie's on tour...
and maybe CW is bored by MJ/KR fights ?

well you see so many questions without an answer clue... ask Theodora on my space maybe ? smoking smiley

I like the Stones because even during the internet era you never really know what they're doing or where they are most of the time.

Not heard anything about "a recent fight". On the contrary! They're planning to work together.

Is it just me, or is anyone else getting the google ads for Depression and suicide" at the top of the undercover.com.au site that has the exclusive on Charlie quitting?

Where's the ad for home delivery of big bottles of bourbon?

Good to be here

A few pix of Charlie from last night - hopefully not looking like a man who's quit.

A man who has such a smile while drumming can't quit ....

Honestly, it would NOT be a shock to learn that there won't be any more Rolling stones tours.

The guys have proven they were the kings. Younger acts never achieved what they did on stage, even if 2006/7 was the beginning of what we could define as the begining of a downward slope.

Charlie's decision deserves our respect. The man had health issues, he's 68, and he does whatever he thinks is right.

Some monuments like Chuck Berry and BB King are still touring.
Some others, like Ray Charles, James Brown or John Lee Hooker toured almost until the end, but they all play(ed) small venues and their performance cannot be compared to an act like the Stones.
(James Brown was the shadow of what he used to be in the 60ies, but he adapted his sets)

I am pretty sure that many major acts, like AC/DC or Metallica will have to stop performing on stage much earlier than the Stones.

If Charlie wants to stop, all we can do is say thank you for everything he and the band gave to their fans during all these years.

until we get an 'official' report i have my doubts.

having said that it's plausible, around about now, if the 2010 tour rumours were true, they'd be making the calls to one another now to get things moving, maybe Charlie has finally had enough...

That's where he loves to be. Behing his drums. As long as he hears Keith.

This news, no matter if it's true or not, has really fu*ked up my work day. My concentration, inspiration - everything's gone. 30 cigarettes (well almost) and 2 big pots of PG tea... I gotta take a walk or a heart attack's bound to happen.

Hope everyone else's well - despite this awful news.

Swaystones,

You're right, he does look happy, but the article doesn't suggest that Charlie's quitting drumming, just that he's quitting the Stones, an entity which has become an intercontinental touring machine.

Great pics, thanks. Didn't bring my own camera, as I didn't really think I could have improved on the pics I managed to get at the 100 Club gig of his.

Agree, he definitely doesn't look like a man that has quit, or at least quit DRUMMING I should say.

But it's nevertheless possible that behind the scenes he has put his foot down with the others and said he's no longer interested in drumming if it involves yet another three year extravaganza and all the associated travel. For the time being, that's my theory and I'm gonna stick to it.

Hmmm, if it's true then that's a real shame...

However I don't believe it at the moment. Like many on here I would want to hear the news from a more reliable/reputable source, such as bbc.co.uk etc...

Especially the comment to polandstones about them touring next year, which came from charlie himself...?

Right now i'm not too concerned. Let's hope they all carry on.

Er..Led Zeppelin didnt do option 2. YOU ARE RIGHT, IT WAS JUST A WAY TO SPEAK

How about a third choice - neither of the above. YEP, I THOUGH IT TOO - THE THIRD CHOICE WOULD BE :! NO MORE STONES, LETS KEEP GOOD MEMORIES

So, you're suggesting that Charlie threatening to quit and then not doing so suddenly justifies another massive price hike - NO,THAT'S NOT I SAID, READ AGAIN, YOU HAVE A TOO FANTASTIC IMAGINATION

Phew!

I think Charlie's playing in Milton Keynes tonight. Perhaps I'll stand outside the stage door and ask him myself. Until I hear an official announcement then as far as I'm concerned he is still a Rolling Stone.

We'll have to wait for some kind of reliable confirmation.
Meanwhile I try to see some pattern in all this: Keith rather playing piano than guitar,
Charlie playing jazz rather than rock. Probably we will soon hear about a major Holywood
role for Mick.

Good initiative young Nick, good initiative. Now don't go upsetting the man, be polite, be discreet ... but if you actually can get his attention for 15-30 seconds and pop a suitably phrased question, it would be truly great.

Cheers

... we're ALL speculating in varying degrees ! Personally, I'll go with the drummer, what the drummer decides is absolutely 100 percent fine by me.

With you on that one, Paulywaul. He's given us such great times over the years and it's up to him when he wants to change direction.

Let's assume it may be true (just let's assume).

So here is the dilemma (nothing new, but simply said)

You have ONE choice only

1) One or two wolrd tours ahead, in the five years coming, 100 dates in 4 or 5 continents each time, the usual frenzy, but without Charlie, with tickets at an average price of $200

2) The real stuff you would only see in some special, scarce shows in London or New York only, say about 10 shows within two years with ticket topping at $10,000 - The Led Zeppelin way

So what do you choose?

Er..Led Zeppelin didnt do option 2.

How about a third choice - neither of the above.

So, you're suggesting that Charlie threatening to quit and then not doing so suddenly justifies another massive price hike?

No thanks.
Gazza, what do you make of UrbanSteel reporting that according to jane rose keith is over on london? what are your thoughts on that?the way that i took that for keith to go to london maybe they are talking about a upcoming tour with the stones?

Well,it has to come to an end,in all honesty Charlie doesn't need the money,l guess he does his Jazz thing as a hobby rther than a job, with no pressure, also from seeing some of Keith's recent photos posted here,l don't believe he could handle another major tour such as the BB tour,so we need to wait for some comfirmation (which l doubt will come),plus Ronnies problems don't seem to get any better,so all in all, l would bet that is over.Mick will probably do something in his own.

Come on Charlie. Just one more round of concerts. Then you can leave. And no matter what, we MUST get an official dvd of the last show they ever did.

I am having a bad day which I didn't think could get any worse.

However, it just seems more than suspicious that none of the 'big' news agencies are reprting this ie, Skynews, BBC, CNN, Fox , the Times, the British tabloids etc etc.

If this is for real it is big news, everyone will want to report it - surely?

Have we all forgotten when Charlie spoke in Poland a fortnite ago?

I salute NickB's initiative to go and the man himself.
