That isn't a mellotron, but an audio oscillator which would have been used for testing Olympic Sound Studios gear, tape machines, monitors etc etc.

An oscillator was also used on Please Go Home from Between the Buttons.

Note there are also voices making sounds, possibly Mick?

What do they chant on this - is it "We wish you, we wish you"?

Many years ago spent half an hour speeding Cosmic up using a couple
a cassette recorders with pitch control.... Can't recall the exact message but
it was something simple like ..."We wish you a merry Xmas...We wish you a merry Xmas and a very happy New Year ....

Perhaps the reason they're singing the words t oWe Wish You A Merry Christmas is because Cosmic Christmas is the same song?

An oscillator was also used on the Byrds' CTA-102 from Younger Than Yesterday.

But you know that this track has to be played with 45 rpm instead of 33,3 rpm, don`t you? So you have the correct pitch..winking smiley
