"rare" is the word that I don't like here. we know what they consider "rare" from the rarities set...
still, don't want to be overly negative, it could be great smiling smiley

We'll see.

What I like the most is the "multi-CD" bit. That has to mean they will have to throw some actual vault stuff in, not just commonly available B-sides and the occasional live cut. Wouldn't like to see a "Rarities 2" disc, that's for sure. So far, if happening, looks like it's gonna be GOOD.

Maybe they've found the master tape of "I think I'm Going Mad" lol

December release date sounds suspicious. Box sets that are released in time to take advantage of the holiday shopping season are always released BEFORE December. That's why the Beatles remasters are coming out in September.

I do fear that they might try to do a Post-London Years sequel box (which is pretty much what you describe above) but remain cautiously optimistic that they will do it right and make it more of a Beatles Anthology type release. If they really are preparing well-done Exile and YaYa's Deluxe Editions, I think we will have cause for celebration.

The damn shame is that they have not emulated the Dylan archive model. They are the only other major act from the 60's that has kept going and kept producing all these years. Who knows, if they make enough dough on the initial set of vault-releases, maybe we can get what we want...

Ha ha. Well, no, it's the same as the years on Jump Back - at least 4 of them had nothing going on release wise past 1989.

Let's hope that UMe does a better job with their 'rare' releases than that hack slop shit job Virgin did with those peons did.

I, myself, have been waiting for a post-London years box for a long time, and if it included a DVD of their videos, that'd be even better still!!

Why don't you just make your own with an itunes playlist in about 10 minutes? An updated Video Re-Wind is another story of course.

i cant understand if it is a sort of "best of" compilation, with all the normal albums hits, including some b-sides and rarities, or it is a real only rarities-unreleased-alternates-box set

A guarded welcome, if true.

I sincerely hope we can replace the word "Includes" in your second sentence with "Consists of". Another excuse for a compilation padded out with a few unreleased songs would be yet another wasted opportunity.

The statement that it covers the years up to 2009 would suggest maybe they'll do a few new songs (a la 40 Licks) to bring it up to date - which would possibly mean that if they tour in 2010 it'll be behind this release of old material (with some 'new' songs) instead of a new studio album.

The songs on 40 Licks were mostly mediocre, obviously thrown together in a hurry and didnt bode well for the future, but in fairness ABB was a pleasant surprise for the most part.

I guess you have to ask yourself is it worth their while (from their perspective) to record a NEW album if they're quite obviously not going to perform the songs in concert.
