The Pretenders Talk Of The Town is just about the most perfect song ever conceived. Absolute perfection in every way.

Thank you much for the link.

thanks for the link. enjoyed watching todd rundgren and blondie chaplin, too!
As for the Pretenders, I like the new line-up, but I had the privilege to see the original band and they REALLY rocked!

Funny, G-nat, I was driving to band practice last night w/ our lead guitarist and bass player and 'Talk of the Town' came on (one of my favourite songs ever) and they were both blown away, having never heard it before.

Norwegian wood? Isn't that what Norwegian fans get when they look at Chrissie Hynde?

Thanks! Thought I´d have a look for a minute or so...but this beautiful, sexy 58-year old girl...I just couldn´t stop! Watched the whole show!

There's only one surviving Pretender left, isn't there? Chrissie herself.

The rest are all pretenders.

She's 58?

She played talk of the Town acoustically on a BBC news/chat show this morning. (Promoting new album and tour/festival gigs)

Nope, ,you're forgetting Martin Chambers!
All though Martin Chambers replaced Jerry Mackleduff, he was founding member.

That's the drummer. He's still with her? (She said on the program this morning that she was the last one left)
Never heard of Mackleduff!

... and oh my giddy-aunt .... Chrissie IS 58 .... (later this year)

"Chrissie Hynde (born Christine Ellen Hynde, 7 September 1951, Akron, Ohio) is an American rock musician, best known as the leader of the rock-new wave band ... "

from Wikipedia

I can't forget their Live Aid slot - and her on harmonica and in a white rhinestone outfit. (Well I had forgotten it - bad am glad to be reminded of it)

If you don't have it, here you can listen to the Pretenders latest album Break Up The Concrete in it's entirety.

Strangely enough, the drums on this album is actually Jim Keltner, not Martin Chambers.
I don't really know why though.

I saw the band a few times with the original line-up, and promoted a show in 1982 in support of their second album. Great band, though you could see Chrissie and the other guys were not getting along.

The the lineup has changed a lot. Chrissie was smart enough to always find a guitarist who could play like James Honeyman-Scott. They could keep that original sound that he was so much a part of before his tragic overdose. She keeps bringing back Martin Chambers...another great move. He carries one of my fav Pretenders songs: Mystery Achievement.

I'd still catch them if I could.
