No good, can't speak, wound up, no sleep
Sky diver inside her, skip rope, stunt flyer
Wounded lover, got no time on hand

Pause for bus'ness, hope you’ll understand
The judge and jury walk out hand in hand
Dietrich movies, close up boogies, kissing c u n t in Cannes
Grotesque music, million dollar set
I got no tactics, got no time on hand

Left shoe shuffle, right shoe muffle, sinking in the sand
Fade out freedom, steaming heat on, watch that hat in black
Finger twitching, got no time on hand
All right, mama

One of my favourites. Only in 1972 could they have tossed off a song like that and still make it a work of genius.

"Music is the frozen tapioca in the ice chest of history."

"Shit!... No shit, awright!"

One of the defining tunes of EOMS.

One of my all time favorites! It's perfect. It's a loose, sexy, stomp your feet kind of groove. One could play it for ages.

True gems are: Keith's back up vocals, Keith's guitar work on the intro, Taylor's monster solo (I consider it one of his best on record!).

Sexy, slithering, barrel house blues. Fantastic and I agree, one of the defining tunes of EOMS. Sounds so simple, but it was so complex, probably one of the hardest songs to do live. They never did it. THe lyrics are a snapshot of their life of exile. The slinking guitars that go around each other, like snakes. Taylor is unrelenting. The slide is trance brilliance. Great track that Jagger often dismisses.

sorta hoped for and expected it at the vegas mgm grand show in '94...if not there and then, then when? still, good show....

...and it's a great tune...as "stonesy" as they come....

a unique and accomplished cut... didn't realize it was finished at Wally Heider's, thanks for the info, René!

I think it's one of the tunes that could ONLY have been on Exile. It's perfect there, and would have been out of place anywhere else. Great bass by Keith, great lyrics.

Dietrich movies, close up boogies, kissing @#$%& in Cannes
Grotesque music, million dollar sad

Let's clear this up once and for all

The lyric is:

DIETRICH MOVIES, CLOSE UP BOOGIES, KISSING CUT IN CANS

CUT as in a film cut

and CANS as in film that is 'in the can'

It's not that other rather rude word that everybody seems to think it is

Just listen to it loud on headphones - you'll hear it is unmistakably CUT in CANS

The lyrics here have a a FILM feel to it i.e. CLOSE UP, GROTESQUE MUSIC, MILLION DOLLAR SAD, and has nothing whatever to do with that other rude 'word'

Cheers

"Kissing cut in cans" doesn't make sense, even though I get it that films get cut and put in the can.

Let's not forget this is Mick "I want to f*ck your sweet ass" Jagger we are talking about here. He was in the south of France at the time, very near the "casinos" of Monaco and the topless beaches of Nice. No wait, Cannes. Which is also famous for its - wait for it - film festival! (Excuse the sarcasm, but one should not be so vociferous when so far out on a limb.)

This song epitomizes the Stones and EOMS. You gotta love where it's positioned as well on what I classify as the greatest album in the history of music.

Re: Track Talk: Casino Boogie

A filthy funky masterpiece. Exhibit 1 in the "why The Rolling Stones are amillion times better than the Beatles" argument - because they were lowdown and nasty. "Casino Boogie" rolls so hard, it rocks.

...and I agree with the posters that have pointed out the beauty of the sax solo - one of my favorite moments in 1970's rock n roll.

Viva Casino Boogie!

<<Bowie style lyrics>>

Yes, excellent lyrics which I associate with Bill Burroughs's cut-up technique.
Any other vociferous musings on how this text came about,
and what it was influenced by? And what it refers to?

Re: Track Talk: Casino Boogie
Posted by: skl127 ()

Bet it doesn't refer to kissing @#$%& in Cannes

IMHO it's definitely Cut and Cans

But if you want to think its kissing @#$%& in Cannes, then so be it

This is getting to be like the mis-printed lyrics to Little Red Rooster

it's Strange Kin People

Not Strange Cat People as it is printed nearly everywhere

You just have to carefully Listen

Cheers!

I remember reading an article where Mick said EOMS was filled with songs that were really just parts of songs. I think Casino Boogie is one of those, but what a wonderful part of a song it is. Charlie sounds so good on it.

also didn't Mick, Keith Brian and Anita P go to the Cannes Festival a couple years before?
