Mick said this was show number 107. Keith said it was the last show, so they could have some extra fun, as friends came on stage to do some backing vocals.

Paint It Black was the perfect song, and a must for Istanbul, with it's oriental harmonics. And Mick introduced it as influenced by Turkish music. Then Keith played his soul into the intro. Too bad Charlie was alreday dreaming of being home in England, because no drums took over, the drums that makes Paint It Black so great. Keith turned his head, looking at Charlie, turned, walked back ten feet or so to Charlie, and then, as he had kept it alive with his added guitar chords, there he was, Charlie, Mr. Paint It Black, bringing it all alive with his great drumming.

Keith was so strong on the guitar tonight, and Ronnie really played a lot of great guitar as well. Mick worked hard on the crowd, even if he did not run out on the wings as much as he use to do.

The stadium was medium size only, may be 30,000 capacity for football, maximum. The field was only 60% full, and I would guess there were around 30,000 people in the crowd. But the fans who came made a great show and a great crowd - a nice closing of this tour.

And it got a bit sentimental as we had to say goodbye to the friends and the Stones crew, who had been together in Stonesland for a year now. And we all said - see you in January!

I will try to post some more details about the final show later, unless others do so. Please send all your comments and reviews - thanks!

PS. The official set list said show number 108 - so Mick and the crew does not count the same way - I'll number the shows later, so that it's all clear how many shows they played, official and "secret".

ISTANBUL and "LOVE IS STRONG"!

Been to 19 Concerts, all good, even the rained on ones, who cares! The Stones deliver, always! The Worlds Greatest Band Ever!!!!!!!

I'm back from Europe. The STONES were great! I got "LOVE IS STRONG" in Istanbul. I'd resigned myself with only a "glimmer" of hope of hearing it live again. What a surprise I had when Mick scrolled down the list and Keith was acting all serious about it, looking at the screen! I thought, what's up, with those two putting on so! Then..."thar she whar" and Big as you please "LOVE IS STRONG"! UP went my Yellow "HAPPY" FACE Sign (which I carried from the USA and to all the shows and back again to the USA). and I was so HAPPY that I jumped up and down throughout the whole song! (I was in front by the fence and stairs on Keith's side, a great spot too!) Why, Thank ya very much, GUYS! Fabulous!

......."(I Can't get No).....SATISFACTION!"

Have a Good Rest Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie, you all deserve it! (and to the backup band as well)!

LOVE THE ROLLING STONES!

Review by Jean-Pierre Lescher, France

With my dearest friend Ronald we spend an happy week end in Istanbul because of one of the greatest Rolling Stones'show in the old stadium of "GALATASARAY". The atmoshere was as "hot" as in South America. Everything was fine until the storm came. One Jagger can hide another one because James was coming on the stage pushed by Lisa to sing in the chorus. I wish I could see the Rolling Stones next year. HAPPY END in ISTANBUL STONES Forever.

Review by Ronald Stalter, Paris, France

The last show in Istanbul was the nearest show from the ancient city of Babylon, and the first in Turkey The audience was really crazy and from the seats, it looked a bit like in Buenos Aires My friend Jean-Pierre and I thought we were the only french people in Istanbul, but we met another french couple, staying at the Stones' Hotel The only disapointement we had the absence of surprises. The show was shortened down to only 19 songs, and the Stones only played 2 songs on the small stage (maybe Mick was afraid of a crowd which he ignored the reactions) The first half of the show was not the best we've had, and Mick seemed to have a problem with his voice once again, so after Satisfaction he went backstage to ask for more mix on his microphone. To our surprise, he made his usual sexy game with Lisa during Miss You, and the crowd went hysterical. The second part of the show was very good, and everybody seemed happy at the end. We could see one of Keith's Jamaican friends singing a bit backing vocals during Thief In The Night, and a few minutes later, Lisa brought Mick's son with her on stage during the intro of Honky Tonk Women. This will unfortunately he the last review this year. Let's look forward to the 1999 shows, and don't forget that ROLLING ROCK RULES !!!!!....

Review by Atsuko Furukawa, Tokyo, Japan

My summer ended with the live at Ali Sami Yen. It was a long trip for me from Stockholm to Istanbul. Moving, moving, moving like a rolling stone. This time I could meet many die-hard and core Stones freaks. It was the most valuable thing I could get at this tour (of course except for the lives). At first I couldn't believe they could stay at station. But at the end I was doing the same thing. To see the Stones, everything seemed fantastic.

At Globen MICK said about King and Queen in the crowd. I thought WE ARE HERE! MICK! King and Queen? What's important? But they enjoyed R&R with us all not as VIP. That's sounds good! Stockholm was sooo beautiful and confortable city.

The show in Berlin was so nice! The Corrs were like inhabitants of the forest. Beautiful sisters created somewhat nostalgic but new sounds...It was like a good aperitif. And great choices of the songs...I want to listen more and more to other songs... (Got NO Satisfaction!!) The arena was too small for their gigantic energy, wasn't it?

After the two small size shows Mannheim was big again. I thought huge size stadium and huge audience were good, too. I love both wherever Stones are playing there. MICK said "We have so many fans from far countries today." YES!! from all over the world!! The web choice was "Let It Bleed". We are completely leaning and dreaming on them! Thank you, thank you so much.

At Athens I saw blue sea of Adriatic sea in MICK's eyes. I came through Monza and Milan. MICK was there! at the F1 Italian grand prix! (Love is strong!! My sixth sense brought me there!) Olympic Stadium was just a sports stadium. No smell of ancient city. I was a little disappointed. But I love the song "She's a rainbow". That lyrical introduction of keyboard of Chuck!! I change the "She" to "MICK" sometimes or imagine the beautiful children of MICK running and laughing around.(I missed the other beautiful Jagger!!)

After the show I was stolen my wallet at the crowded subway... I really became like a rolling stone... Fortunately I had my passport yet!

I went to the exotic Islamic city Istanbul crossing the border where army and tank were there. (Gimme Shelter! Much blood are bleeding somewhere in Europe...) NO SECURITY is the name of their new album. As a matter of fact there were so many army between us. That's the reality... "Don't you worry what's on your mind (Oh my)-Let's spend the night together- Now I need you more than ever" So,yesterday don't matter if it's gone. I was thinking PAINT IT BLACK was really European sound. That introduction of guitar... but this was the song of the city of a terminus of the orient express... PAINT IT BLACK in Istanbul was the best! The SUMMER song! We were jumping and clapping our hands all the time!! Great!! For Jerry and their children there? Or for us? The web choice was LOVE IS STRONG! I love the blues harp of MICK! What a soulful sound!!! Great!! I could listen to all songs so real that night than ever. Thanks to the pickpocket? "Honey, got no money-6s-7s-9s-"

START ME UP made me HAPPY as usual,JUMPING JACK FLASH made me gas BROWN SUGAR dancin' with MICK,HAPPY,KEITH was jumping across the stage!!! Amazing!

Though the night was the last night of 1998, they ended the show with no sentimentalism. No kiss was thrown from MICK. It was like they wanted to say "This is not the end." nor "Don't be sentimental, see you soon."

I miss you all!!!!!!!!!!!
